What's Good On TV? V. Saul Changed His Number

Finished Stranger Things yesterday with misses... loved it. Proper good. Big stephen king feel about it

My Mrs enjoyed Stranger Things as well which is nice as I can't normally sell her on anything fantastical. She wouldn't have got any of the 80's vibe or references either where as it felt like a comfy pair of plimsolls to me.

Mr Robot 2 is even weirder than the first season if that's at all possible? It's my favorite at the moment.

Turn is well worth a watch - didn't think I'd enjoy it but I was wrong.

I've said it before but I'll say again:The Leftovers.

Where are people watching series these days? Between Sky blocking a number of sites and a few getting taken down its annoying, just want Mr Robot season 2 without fucking subtitles or anything. :)

I only watch a series during good weather.

There's only so long you can stand in the rain to look through your neighbour's living room window :\

I actually paid for Amazon Prime this year. I have a firestick. Other than that Kodi with a decent build. Ares Wizard is your friend.

MDB - found season 1 and just finished episode 8. Going to finish the last two tomorrow night so will update later.

Really great show though, cheers.

I just finished episode 10 last night. I dunno if it was me or the series, but it seemed to start off superbly, slumped a little in the middle, and picks up again towards the end. I have one more additional episode to watch, about Louis getting on with building his palace, it's not episode 11 S1 so seems to be some kind of standalone thing.

They have changed the schedule for S2 from 4 years to next year!! Quite a difference eh. Who the fuck said it would be 4 years i dunno, but glad that S2 will be on next year after all. All in all it was brilliant imo, a great character study, and full of great characters.

I've watched a season and a half of hell on wheels this last week. Stuck at work site. Pretty good shit.

Stranger Things' star to appear in remake of Stephen King's 'It'

I hope they do the remake justice and dont fuck it up. I love the 'IT' book

I really enjoyed the 80's vibe of Stranger Things. Highly recommended for some easy watching. If they do "IT" it should be just as good if not better.

We liked Hell on Wheels. At times it got old but overall great series to binge on. It must be a bit like you at work eh ;)

New Narcos 2 on Netflix next weekend %)

Mr Robot has been my favourite series of now - it's got better and better.

Stranger Things really reminded me of IT when I watched it. I've been watching FleaBag on BBC3. Some fantastic acting from Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Olivia Coleman and Hugh Dennis and it's pretty funny.

Really enjoyed Stranger Things! Moved on to the second season of Marco Polo and now I'm on the last episode and I don't know what to watch now!

Have you seen Narcos? I reckon you might like it. Now there's a season 2 so loads of good viewing to jammy in for those nights of lazy indulgence ;)

Season 3 of The Strain has started :).

I haven't seen all 'Stranger Things' yet but will likely have that finished in the next few days - it has a great old school vibe to it which is refreshing.

The Tick started but I haven't watched any of it yet so not sure

Fear the walking dead has started up again and I've enjoyed the last few episodes (Season 2 Ep 6 7 8) 9 out today.

The get Down on Netflix shows promise. A few historical issues as its essentially the history of hip hop through Grandmaster Flashes eyes and its well known he has claimed things that others did but he got the credit for. Still worth watching.

Tyrant is worth a watch. Currently watching season 2. Some times it needs a kick but mostly good.

Storage Wars, seasons 7 and 8 in particular! I know it's mindless television but it's still moderately entertaining, especially when Dave Hester brings in the ruckus

Has only seen the Australian TV program "Animal Kingdom"? Really enjoyed the film, but you just really can't trust film critics (at least the mainstream ones, anyway). Rotten Tomatoes is alright enough, but mainly just a good guidline if something is absolutely shyte.

Animal Kingdom is one of my favorite films, 'Pope' was an amazingly scary psycopathic character. 8o

Since watcing A.K. I've noticed the actor who played him; Ben Mendelsohn, in at least 2 other films where he was also excellent. I cant quite recall the full details of one of the films, but iirc he played a similar type of character to 'Pope', and he was also in Verical Limit, which i rewatched the other night, where again he had a good role, this time as a 'good guy' all be it a bit of a nutter, but also a very experienced and capable mountaineer who volunteers to help on an extremely dangerous resue mission on K2. It's a slightly cheesy film, but is a very good edge of the seat watch first time round, with shocks and thrills a plenty, and stood up to a second viewing much better than expected.

Btw what do you think of Mark Kermode as a film critic?

I'm not quite sure whether I agree with his opinions and tastes but The Film Review is the only film review show that i know of that is on every week of the year, and whether you agree with Kermode or not, you cant fail to agree with at least some of his opinions, and at least you get an idea of what's out currently and what it's about. 8(

Nearly finished the first season of The Man in the High Castle and have been pleasantly surprised by it. PKD adaptions tend to end up having precious little to do with the source material and I couldn't see how this would be any different as the book itself is short, episodic and supremely unsuitable to be made into a TV series with appeal to anybody other than hardcore PKD fans. I think they managed to stay close to the book in terms of character and theme whilst also skipping the vast majority of the specifics of the novel's plot. Got one more episode to go today but on the strength of it so far I'll be looking forward to the second season for sure.

I know it wasn't me you were asking but I must say he's been my favourite and most trusted film critic for 20-odd years now. Excellent taste in films (imo and all that) and (for me at least) his reviews are almost spookily spot-on time after time. He used to write for a magazine I read religiously as a teenager that specialised in horror films - especially obscure old B-movies, "video nasties" and such like - and his pieces always stood out. You ever heard him talk about The Exorcist? It's his all-time favourite film and lawdy does that fella know it - and every even remotely conceivable connection and cultural resonance from it - inside out. But mostly I just find it refreshing to find a film critic who doesn't just go with Citizen Kane - I'll always trust the opinions of somebody who thinks for themselves far more than those who just say what they know they're expected to say.

I'd second that recommendation. Really enjoyed the first season and looking forward to the new one!

Yeah, I thought the film was fackin' great as well! It's just I don't know if you saw this, but there was a TV program out based around the same family, so was just seeing if anyone had personally seen the program.

I've got a bit of a ADD thing going on, so unless what I'm watching is the absolute top-teir of programming, then my mind ends up wondering, only to find that I've lost about 10 minutes of dialogue haha.

That's no worries, I'm glad you replied. :) I completely agree that it's great to have an honest critic who likes what he likes, and can say why, rather than just liking those the type of films they are supposed to like. He seems to go into every film with an open mind, no matter what it is. Because Ive only started watching his show in the last couple of years I dont think ive actually seen hardly any of the films that he's reviewed yet as i dont currently go to the cinema at all often or hire dvds etc i have to wait for them to appear on TV.

So im mostly still waiting, though iirc he loved the Ben Wheatley films Kill List, and Sightseers which i did too. On another occasion I needed some context after being totally freaked out by watching the first half of A Serbian Film. It took me many months to feel in the right frame of mind to watch the end and i looked up Kermode's review before watching it, and he absolutely reviled the film, and was not taking it anywhere near as seriously as i was, which helped with watching the 2nd half without finding it anywhere near as disturbing as i found the first half on first viewing with no idea what to expect.

I cant say that I have heard him talk about the Exorcist. I do remember being almost too scared to continue watching when my younger cousin and I watched the film alone in the house on VCR when i was about 15 or so iirc. I tried re-watching it again more recently, and couldn't get over my familiar issue of the film seeming "dated." I'm trying to re-train myself to get over that and will try and watch it again next time it's on TV.

@SP -no Ive not seen the show about the real life family. What's it called? I may be able to find it online. Was the family anything like the film version? Especially the sinister and totally creepy Pope character? 8o
