What great band have you just discovered?

I just recently stumbled into The Shins, their cd "Chutes and Ladders". They remind me of a modern day Kinks. Very cool stuff, I can't stop repeat playing the whole disc.

I recently got into these guys as well. I believe you're thinking of the Chutes Too Narrow album. I first heard them when I saw Garden State and was intrigued, then I bought the movie soundtrack and really dug their tracks on it, so I finally went out and bought one of their albums. I've been playing it quite a bit lately.

^Did you buy "Oh, Inverted World?" I think it's much better than Chutes. That album's been a favorite of mine for a couple years now.

If you enjoy the Shins, I highly recommend these pop rock albums: The New Pornographers - Electric Version; Circulatory System - Circulatory System; Aloha - Sugar; Super Furry Animals - Phantom Power; Spoon - Kill The Moonlight; The Unicorns - Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone.

i had the opportunity to listen to Pat Metheny, The Way Up, the whole way thru. It's new jazz. I loved it, the album is ment to be listened thru in a sitting, not incrementally. Check it out....

i just discovered Bossa N' Stones. Rolling Stones songs put to a sensual bossa nova groove. i'm diggin it.

Saw them mentioned in an earlier post... Sleater-Kinney...

I've been meaning to pick up Oh, Inverted World but haven't gotten around to it. I'll have to check some of your other recommendations. Thanks!

I haven't heard that. Pat Metheny can be hit or miss. Pat Matheny Trio is usually some sort of smoking hard bop group while Pat Metheny Group tends to be a little too smooth jazz for my tastes. He did come out with an awesome acoustic album in the last couple years, but I can't remember the name of it. My favorite album, and one of my favorite jazz records ever, is Bright Size Life. It's his first album (I believe he was 19 at the time) and he recorded it with Jaco Pastorius and Bob Moses. It's a great record.

i just started listening to him recently and i am just rocking out to his stuff.his voice is kinda chicago-ish and his songs are very well written.alot of people who posted they like sigur ros, mogwai, from autumn to ashes etc would really dig this guys sound and voice.his lyrics are great to...

Tonight it’s very clear
As we’re both lying here
There’s so many things I want to say
I will always love you
I would never leave you alone

Sometimes I just forget
Say things I might regret
It breaks my heart to see you crying
I don’t wanna lose you
I could never make it alone

I am a man who will fight for your honor
I’ll be the hero you’re dreaming of
We’ll live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

You’ll keep me standing tall
You’ll help me through it all
I’m always strong when you’re beside me
I have always needed you
I could never make it alone

I am a man who will fight for your honor
I’ll be the hero you’ve been dreaming of
We’ll live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

Just like a knight in shining armor
From a long time ago
Just in time I will save the day
Take you to my castle far away

I am a man who will fight for your honor
I’ll be the hero you’re dreaming of
We’re gonna live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

We’ll live forever
Knowing together that we
Did it all for the glory of love

seriously though....

lately ive been into coheed and cambria.the dude hardly ever uses power chords which is refreshing.i would describe them as if the 4 geekiest guys at the star trek convention somehow found each other and started a band it would be coheed and cambria.instrumentally they are on point.i like the dudes voice...and i dont give a fuck if you dont(and repeat)

I had a track before but diddnt dig it. Due to everyone proclamation of their awesomeness, i have really gotten into Isis as of late. If you dig Tool or Neurosis, ud be able to dig this.

word on people getting into ISIS
they are gods
GODS
i never shut up about these guys

they remind me of if newer tool and newer neurosis had a baby and it hung out with a lot of metal people growing up.
