I was working at a theater when this came out; I can't even count how many times I've seen it. My wife hated it at first, now she suggests it.

It's a truly magical thing if a movie actually gets better everytime you see it. Most of the tripe that is passed off as good film these days I can't stand to see more than once ( and sometimes even that's one too many! ).

You gotta see it way more than one time, L2R good buddy!

heil her administraTore

I left this movie in my dvd player for a month

Nother bizzity bump.....

Saw it again on the E! channel last night. Even the edited version had me about to piss myself laughing.

I watched this on the E! channel recently as well... did you notice that they cut some of most important scenes of the movie clean out? If I hadn't seen this movie 50 other times, I would have thought that the kid ended up with the money at the end of the movie, and would have had no clue that Maude was pregnant. E! actually cut out those scenes entirely..... butchering a movie like that should be a crime.

I still however, enjoyed the movie, even in its butchered state.

This ones definitely in my top 5, and quite possibly my favorite flick of all time.

Say what you want about the tenants of national socialism, at least it's an ethos.

I've had a mini dressing down from others on Bluelight due to me not having seen this yet. This will hopefully be remedied this very evening as I am now more than willing to give it a try. I sense people feel strongly about my ignorance, because I thought it looked shit.

Seemingly I couldn't be more wrong. So here goes. :)

^Haha. Great first post.

I wanted to slap John Goodman in the face for a good portion of the movie, but I guess that is in no way a good reason for calling it a sub-par movie. I also think the ending was pretty weak - it didn't really tie up any of the film's "loose ends," so to speak.

I don't see how you can not like Goodman's performance in this movie. It's probably his most brilliant role. Jeff Bridges has also said it was the most enjoyable movie he has ever done.

I dunno about the not tying all the loose ends up...a Spielberg flick it ain't. That rug, however, really did tie the room together.

Maybe its because I get profoundly high every time I watch Lebowski, but it took me several viewings to figure out that everything tied itself up quite nicely at the end. At least, questions of "why did things happen the way they did", were answered, anyway.

Questions like "what will happen to bunny" and "Will the dude decide he wants to play an active role in raising Maude's child" don't get answered because it really sucks the absurdity out of a movie to narrate the future of every character (unless, of course, you find a clever way to do it, ala Animal House.

so, call me crazy, but i really think this might be one of the most perfect comedies (or movies period) of our generation.

it's truly genious. the cinematography...the phenomenal dialogue, the casting, the story...everything.

can't get enough. and i never even saw it until about 3-4 years ago.

I got the DVD as a Christmas gift back in like 2001, I think. My room mates and I watched it at least once a day for a month. We can probably still recite the whole thing from memory if you get us enough Caucasians and joints.

Its actually got me interested in doing the Lebowski challenge: a drink for every drink he has, and a spliff for every one he has (roofie laced cocktail optional).

(just watched)

Hmmmmm.......It was okay I suppose, but I'm definitely not getting what y'all are. I'm more than man enough to admit when I'm wrong, but I doubt this will ever be watched again. Sorry, but the Coens have done SO much better than this one.

If you read more of this thread you will see quite a few people echo the same first impression (myself included), that it was just OK the first time viewing. But this is one of those rare movies that gets better with repeated viewings- this movie really tends to grow on you after the third or fourth time watching imo.
