Film The Big Lebowski

So, it seems that nearly everyone I have met has seen this movie. I am not always the first to go see a movie, it seems, and just managed to see this film this evening. Anyway, I was just kind of looking for the opinions of others regarding this movie. Everyone I had talked to had definately worked it up and made it out to seem like an absolutely great movie.

Anyhow, I did think there were some damn funny parts in this movie, "You said it man. Nobody fucks with the Jesus," may be one of my favorite quotes of all-time, mostly due to my striking resemblance to the man. Other than some funny stuff, I just didn't think it was that great a movie. I wanted to slap John Goodman in the face for a good portion of the movie, but I guess that is in no way a good reason for calling it a sub-par movie. I also think the ending was pretty weak - it didn't really tie up any of the film's "loose ends," so to speak.

Enough of that though, what did everyone else think of this movie?

I loved this movie.

The Dude just wanted to drink white russians and for his rug not to be pissed on, thats all! But people kept fucking up his plan.

a friend of mine hurt his ankle and got prescribed vicodin a couple weeks back, and he watched this movie many times during his rehabilitation, because he was stoned off his ass, quoting it for hours on end on msn.

eventually i got curious enough to download it, and have seen it 5 or 6 times in the last 2 weeks. there's new things you notice and find funny in nearly every seen. this is a buy, not a rental.

i definitely think the movie is a stoner classic of sorts and i've seen it more than once, which means that it is better than average but i think that there are people out there that made this movie out to be something it is not. and that is Greatness. yes, i understand opinion and diversity.

My brother absolutely loves it, though.

Coen films generally are growers..

The big lebowski is absolutely brilliant. The casting is superb, the characters are really well defined and the script is sharp and witty.

I never get tired of Coen Brother's movies. I even liked The Man Who Wasn't There . Their characters are perfect and you never know where their plots are going. Not to mention they're funny as hell. I've probably seen all of them at least 3-4 times and The Big Lebowski is my favorite, ok maybe a tie with Raising Arizona .
I can't wait for The Ladykillers to come out!

The Big Lebowski isn't a film you can see just once and appriciate IMO. There are subtlities in the dialogue and script that just defy a single viewing. Personally I wasn't too gone on it when I saw it in the cinema but I reckon I've seen it 10 times since. It's the perfect thing to put on after a night out on the piss

The Big Lebowski is the greatest movie ever. I didn't see it til like a month or two ago.. and I thought ...meh it's ok. But then I saw it again and I was like hey this movie's interesting. And finally I kept watching and watching and i was like FUCK! I gotta buy this! And so i did and ive watched it a ton since. Definitly my favorite movie, I love everything about it.

1st viewing - mildly entertaining

2nd viewing - pretty funny

3rd viewing - fuckin' hilarious

4+ viewings - good, comforting movie to watch on a lonely day or a comedown

I think the problem on 1st viewing is the meadering plot that ends up evaporating. When you watch it again and again you realise it's really a character piece.
