RIP Mr Nice

If it is true that as was said earlier that He got into the pill buisiness after getting out of jail then it puts a bit of a cloud on his " never deal in Class A's because they are evil and only deal in cannabis because it is a harmless (ney bencicial) herb with no harmfull properties" stance a wee bit.....

On the whole though an amazing guy with a very interesting life who just oozed charm and carisma...

RIP Howard <3

You should read Mr Smiley, its no Mr Nice but it does do a little to explain how he ended up dealing pills, and to explain that rehabilitation post-incarceration is never going to be easy for anyone.

Loved the book, hated the film.

RIP.

The film was a total abomination!

Often the case when a book is turned into a film but all the "added bits" to create dramatic effect where a bit stupid....

The bit where he is about to get kneecapped by the IRA for dealing , Jim McCann opening fire with a MAC 11 when he gets busted (neither of which actually happened in the book)...the details of several scams rolled into one and mixed up etc....

Such a shame to spoil what was one of the best books I've ever read....

Its the same with most things. Angela Ashes' book is truly amazing; the language; the way its written in the first person, present tense - the film's ok but not a patch on what a truly inspirational piece of writing it is.

In 1980, Marks was arrested by customs officers for his part in importing £15 million of cannabis; police had followed associates of the Trafficante family to a large stash of cannabis.[40] When arrested, he was in possession of numerous pieces of incriminating evidence, as well as £30,000 in cash.[41] Defended by Lord Hutchinson, Marks pleaded 'Not Guilty', concocting a story that he was an agent for MI6 (concealing the fact that his relation with MI6 ended in 1973) and the Mexican Secret Service that had set up an identity as a drug smuggler in order to close the net on James McCann (wanted in Britain for his IRA activities).[42] The jury found him innocent of drug smuggling, but guilty of using false passports and Marks was sentenced to two years imprisonment,
