Let's talk about BREAKS baby!

this is so true. it's a continuous cycle for me: i'll be shopping, innocently peek at a few breaks tracks if my current flavors aren't working for me, and sometimes instantly unearth a pile of the dopest shit ever. this will get me excited about breaks again and i'll play some, convinced they have made a triumphant return. then as quickly as the influx of awesome began it drops off completely. everything starts to sounds the same. the level of suck actually pisses me off to the point that the tracks give me a headache. i then swear off breaks and regard the fans as trendy burner robot trash.

rinse and repeat.

Word. I move to Drum & Bass in the hard times and then come back to breaks when the going is good again.

agreed. more like stanton snore-iors.

edit: actually hope time is awesome too. both mixes.

fabriclive 30 is an amazing album no matter how you look at it.

True it is quite a good mix (I still use that The Machine/Still Here acapella today), hence why i'm generally a fan of them live. Didn't see what the fuss was with Stanton Sessions 3 though. Why it won a Breakspoll award is quite beyond me.

yeah from what I heard of it, it was like fabriclive but remixed sorta? and kinda lame...

hopefully they come out with something better next time...

Deekline! Stanton Warriors are pretty good (I like their Gorillaz Feel Good Inc remix and their Fabric mix), but Deekline kills it.

Also, Screwface and Cntrl Z are pretty good.

In addition:

Blende productions
Autobots (love Screwface vs. Autobots - Apocalypse)
General Midi (been a fave of mine for a long long time)
Hybrid - Check out their older stuff too!! (Remixes of : Rob D - Clubbed to death, and Moby - Southside)
Uberzone (Live of course!)
Mephisto Odyssey (oldschool djs that came out with a new release recently - Stereophonic, which is pretty awesome)
Lady Waks
Rogue Element (Calm and Let me breathe and his new "Disco of Doom" project with tom real is freaking rad)
Meat Katie (Nu Tron, enough said ;))

there is no genre on the planet that I find to be more hit or miss than breaks. i'll go six months and hate every single breaks track I hear, and then all of sudden I'll find like 600 amazing releases, each one of which I could (and often have) listen to on repeat for an entire day. man, there was the rogue element era a few years ago: bash out, sukdat, I've made progress, he's so hot right now... everything that fucker touched turned to gold. then breaks producers started to realize that they would sell a shitload more records if their tracks found their way into the electro house section, and tons of kickass producers jumped ship. and then some douchebag invented indie dance.

BUT, THEY ARE STILL OUT THERE! Breaks fans unite! let's share all those ass hammering, REAL FUCKING BREAKBEAT tracks that are still being released! none of that bullshit electro nonsense that is cleverly disguised as breaks. it's not fooling me, and it shouldn't be fooling anyone else either!

so who's still got it? my #1 these days has been the balkan dynamic duo 4Kuba. they had a couple of misses in the last couple months, but Cheap was a bomb, and they've had at least 3-4 other memorable tunes in the last 6 months or so. right now I'm caning Break the Box - Rock the Mic (Metachemical remix) at every opportunity too.

let's see em kids.

word. i got a vent promo the other day that is fucking slamming. ignite is disgusting too.

i didn't love their last couple releases though

plaza de funk was insane for a while there too, but he feel vulnerable to the "breakspoll best new artist" curse and has sucked major balls since (see groovediggerz in 2008, and there have been many, many more. I actually wrote a paper on a similar phenomenon once

i agree there are some reall shitty breaks but some mixes i have from a few years ago that i still listen to all the time .

anyone have any GOOD 2009 VA/MIX albums releases of breaks?

what do you define as "breaks"? everything without a 4-to-the-floor-bassdrum?

venetian snares, one of the biggest names:

bong-ra (pretty popular, too, some of his tracks are great, some are shit):

maruosa (i LOVE this one):

breakcore is more a feeling (like a hangover or so;) ) than a musical style, imo. often popular pop&rock-songs are mixed in, together with sped up breakbeats, lots of distortion & some speed.

edit:
these two are mochis greatest tracks imo:
