are satanist/devil worshippers real?

Yeah, I started agreeing with everything that was said, Swerlz, up until that little message you posted there.

This is pretty much everything you should know to get the jyst. And mind you, Anton's writings are mostly to be read in-between the lines and interpreted in your own sense. It has a deeper meaning than just the words them self.
Take #4 down there for example. If someone is in your house and annoying the shit out of you and creating a bad aura, then treat them the same way. (Sorry to refer Christianity but it has relevance to what I'm about to type.) The Christian Bible says "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Well if someone is treating you like crap, especially in your own home, then maybe that means they want to be treated like crap too, since that's what they believe in! See, both come into each other, and again: reading in-between the lines. Interpreted in your own sense. Has a deeper meaning than just the words them self.
(Go here, too, for more info: www.churchofsatan.com

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080903090429AAQp5UV
(This gives more information and also discusses Redguard’s Book of Satan) - Also, this is all coming from Anton Szandor LaVey's "The Satanic Bible", then my own sayings in parentheses, italics and smaller print.
)

These are the basics:

1.) Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked. (If someone really wants your opinion, they will ask you. Same for yourself.)

2.) Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them. (Not everyone knows exactly what to say for you. In the end you must figure out your own problems, and you will, because you are the only thing you're truly ever in control of. Could also be interpreted as being a "burden"; bringing others down with you.)

3.) When in another's lair, show him respect or else do not go there. ("If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all." Heard that before, right?)

4.) If a guest in your lair annoys you, treat him cruelly and without mercy.(Read above paragraph again.)

5.) Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal. (Rape/Pushing it/Pressure = Bad. Consent/Given signals = Good. If some chick is obviously hitting on you, make your move. Side note: Right and wrong/good and bad is only in opinion. We all create our own God, Devil, Heaven and Hell. This also goes with #7 in the Nine Satanic Statements.)

6.) Do not take that which does not belong to you unless it is a burden to the other person and he cries out to be relieved. (No stealing. If someone says you can have it, asks if you want it, or gives it to you, then you take it if wanted.)

7.) Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained. (In-between the lines: Appreciate what you've got. Could also be interpreted as karma. "Magic", as he puts it, doesn't necessarily mean actual magic.)

8.) Do not complain about anything to which you need not subject yourself. (If you're not going to do anything about it, then complaining about the situation, or whatever it may be, is not going to help either. You may be put off as "whiny". No harassment/offense/abuse meant by that at all, btw.)

9.) Do not harm little children. (Simple as that.)

10.) Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food. (Same goes with humans, except for the food part.)

11.) When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask him to stop. If he does not stop, destroy him. (Simple as that. If someone keeps nagging at you after you have already warned them to stop, then you take action. They are harming you and your stability/emotions/life just for their spite.)

The Nine Satanic Statements:

1.) Satan represents indulgence, instead of abstinence. (Read again - "REPRESENTS" - That follows through with what willow11 said in early posts of Satan being more of a "metaphor or the principal antagonist of the modern world". Although, I would think of him more as the basic symbolism for what man should do - live. Basically, why deny yourself of what you want and are capable of getting and who and WHAT you really are - a human being. Though at the same time, respect yourself and respect others.)

2.) Satan represents vital existence, instead of spiritual pipe dreams. (We, as human beings, are constantly trying to find an outside force, something, anything to help us with our own curious questionings; the journey of fulfillment - when we should be finding the answers within ourselves. *This next sentence also goes with #7, as well as #3 - We have the knowledge and capability to do/create/accomplish/find whatever we want/need. "Man has always created his gods, rather than his gods creating him." This also comes along with the constant debate over 'Reality vs. Fantasy'.)

3.) Satan represents undefiled wisdom, instead of hypocritical self-deceit. (Questioning something is completely different than claiming one thing then retorting randomly to anther, or creating a double negative for yourself - ex: Said to one person- "I like this" Said to another - "I don't like this". Or, "I like this, but it is stupid." Simple as that. - &When you are given something to help you out, but are not taking advantage of it or ruining the situation for yourself, then that's creating your own destruction. Ex: A friend of mine got a job at a bakery as a cook/baker, but quit because she did not like the cloths that were required to be worn. Simple as that. Self-deceit.)

4.) Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates. (Why be nice to someone who is going to intentionally hurt you; someone who doesn't appreciate your love/what you do for them and will pull you down?)

5.) Satan represents vengeance, instead of turning the other cheek. (Only if someone has wronged you in the complete sense/meaning of the word, should you lash out back. Again, what they believe - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Well, again, they obviously wanted to be treated that way if that's how they felt. Hence, the Satanist's view - "Do unto others as they do unto you.")

6.) Satan represents responsibility to the responsible, instead of concern for psychic vampires. (For those of you who are not familiar with the term "psychic vampire", it is defined as a person who feels the need to feed off of a "life source"/"energy source". This could be described as the bully who constantly picked on you at school just to, taking it out on you, release his own hidden emotions and attempt to fill his empty shell of obliterated self-confidence. It's more masochistic than sadistic, really. You should more-so pity your bully then be afraid of him. &Most of people can be responsible, but not mature - or some mature but not responsible. Both combining into one can happen, but it takes a lot of self control, realization and concentration. This could, in some way, go along with the whole "Mind over Matter" thing.)

7.) Satan represents man as just another animal, sometimes better, more often worse than those that walk on all fours, who, because of his "divine spiritual and intellectual development," has become the most vicious animal of them all. (As I said in #2 - "We have the knowledge and capability to do/create/accomplish/find whatever we want/need. "Man has always created his gods, rather than his gods creating him." - We are constantly developing both physically, intellectually and even creatively - This being said, we start to question how we got here, why we are here, if there is something more, and start to develop ideas of what could or couldn't be. Although, we sometimes become overwhelmed by these ideas and create our own anxiety, therein creating our own destruction. If we should truly be scared of anything, it shouldn't be "global warming","having gas", wars, etc. - it should be ourselves. "You are your own worst enemy." "The one in the mirror is the one you most despise." Heard any of those before? )

8.) Satan represents all of the [what the Christians refer to as] sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification. [*Quoted from “The Satanic Bible”: “A Satanist knows there is nothing wrong with being greedy, as it only means that he wants more than he already has. Envy means to look with favor upon the possessions of others, and the be desirous of obtaining similar things for oneself. Envy and greed are the motivating forces of ambition – and without ambition, very little of any importance would be accomplished. – Gluttony is simply eating more than you need to keep yourself alive. When you have overeaten to the point of obesity, another sin – pride – will motivate you to regain an appearance that will renew your self-respect. – Anyone who buys an article of clothing for a purpose other than covering his body and protecting it from the elements if guilty of pride. Satanists often encounter [people] who maintain that labels are not necessary. It must be pointed out to these destroyers of labels that one or many articles they themselves are wearing are not necessary to keep them warm. There is not a person on this earth who is completely devoid of ornamentation. The Satanist points out that any ornamentation of the [persons] body shows that he, too, is guilty of pride(Unless sentimental). Regardless of how verbose the [person] may be in his intellectual description of how free he is, he is still wearing the elements or pride. – Being reluctant to get up in the morning is to be guilty of sloth, and if you lie in bed long enough you may find yourself committing yet another sin – lust. To have the faintest stirring of sexual desire is to be guilty of lust. In order to insure the propagation of humanity, nature made lust the second most powerful instinct, the first being self-preservation. (This next sentence and such has to deal with the point being made.) Realizing this, the Christian Church made fornication the “Original Sin”. In this way they made sure no one would escape sin. Your very state of being is as a result of sin – the “Original Sin”. – The strongest instinct in every living thing is self-preservation, which brings us to the last of the seven deadly sins – anger. Is it not our instinct for self-preservation that is aroused when someone harms us, when we become angry enough to protect ourselves from further attack? A Satanist practices the motto, “If a man smite thee on one cheek, smash him on the other!” Let no wrong go unredressed. Be as a lion in the path – be dangerous even in defeat!”]

9.) Satan has been the best friend the church has ever had, as he has kept it in business all these years. ([SIZE=”1”]Who has the finger always been pointed at? In just about every ‘god-like’ religion? Why do you think Jesus came down the earth in the first place? What many people don’t know is that Satan used to be the most beautiful and powerful angel sitting aside God. He was referred to as the Morning Star. Well, what do we wake up to every morning? Making the answer easier – what is another name for the sun? Simple as that.[/SIZE])

The four books in the Satanic Bible:
1. (FIRE) Book of Satan – The Infernal Diatribe
2. (AIR) Book of Lucifer – The Enlightenment
3. (EARTH) Book of Belial – The Mastery of the Earth
4. (WATER) Book of Leviathan – The Raging Sea

Sacrificing is out of the question. It was originally used to put in “life energy” to a victim then be ‘released’ for either ‘the god’ or for oneself to gain power. Although, considering “life energy” comes from ourselves and our own emotions/passions, then why kill an innocent creature when it’s going to do no good anyway?
Suicide is out of the question also. A true Satanist loves life and wallows in its splendors. We all die, but not everyone lives. A true Satanist believes that the only thing you should die for is a loved one. Other than that, strive to live and live to strive!

Satanism isn’t as dark as everyone/every other religion seems to put it off to be.
They just misinterpret it. Again – right and wrong/good and bad is only in opinion. We all create our own Devil, God, Heaven and Hell.

AWESOME post

satanism doesn't even sound bad. it sounds a lot like any religion such as christianity. i agree with just about every belief posted up there....why do people make satanist to be all gothic looking and evil?

christianity.
capitalism.
pop-culture.

have you read about the ' 3 Christos? '
or
the Metamorphoses?

some serious galactic business right there...
the 3 Christos is maybe more accessible.
not a 5-600 page poem about the creation of the universe, and everything in between.

Thank you very much. :)) And the whole gothic looking evil thing -- it's just fun, haha.

christianity, would probably crumble with out "satanism".
hehe, satan is keeping god alive*

for just a little bit longer (we have information technology now that will lift us from a lot of our previous ignorance)

i think that religion stems from neurochemical states we have individual* and collective** access to.

* why monks and hermits exist
** why churches exist

these states are tied with mythologies and are personified by "god" and "angels" and, interestingly (this may tell us something about ourselves), their counterparts "satan" and "devils".

both sides of the coin can be "used" or "manipulated" as states of mind, to achieve aims in the real world. AKA "mysticism".

"satanists" are mystics who prefer primarily the other side of the coin.

"gods" became "lords" who soon became "kings" --
over the ages these ' figures ' evolved as well- as the Rulers of Lands.

Edit:
i saw what you did up there, with *this

poof*

~;-)

into thin air...

no, i cant be standing around flipping a coin...
that is just a sad diversion.

... faith in ones self, knowledge of thine others.

"We constantly adapt to our surrounds in our most comfortable way, so when a chance occurs, our 'social norms' become strewn and we question it; wanting to explain it. It either intrigues or bothers us because we cannot explain it. Therefor, we may shy away from it; distract ourselves with TV commercials, shows, video games, and made-up stories because even though we want to know, we have - at our own levels - become comfortable with the simplistic and what just is. We are scared of change.

On the other hand, we sometimes create our own changes because we long for something that is not the same. We strive off of the lust for knowledge; to not accept things for just the simplicity, which is to grow as a human. But there are certain ways of doing it that will help you... that's where research, experience, and knowledge becomes power.

I believe that it's the people that really go in depth about the "different" things - because we have accepted the fact that there is something more. We've also accepted that we ourselves as humans are "different" and "odd" - and want, not just wish, to indulge ourselves with more knowledge of things. This is to do what man was meant to do: ACCEPT our surroundings and use them to our advantage to GROW. You have to understand something before being able to use it to your own advantage. Learn more about yourself and develop as a human being, not hide or shy away. Fear is what motivates us. Ever heard of "fight or flight"?

So in all... how can we really "Break the social norms", if we ourselves are hiding from the real meaning of "normal"? Define this for me: "Advance" "

Was in a different thread, but is somewhat related to this- how we create our own fantasies and realities - to our own comfort levels ("We create our own Devil, God, Heaven and Hell.").

I'd rather go in depth; not just accept something for some simplistic reasoning, and that is what Satanism also promotes. You can't forget the old, because the old created the new. Again, ADVANCE.

"Death is a lie. Life is a dream, and we are all the imaginations of ourselves."
Plus, even when we "die", we are still putting off different chemicals and energies. Everything comes back into one.

I think it is funny how many people get bent when someone uses the word God. Satan is a part of the story of God. You cannot believe in Satan and deny God's existence because they go hand in hand.

Christians see Judas as an antagonist because he turned against Jesus. They believe he was possessed by Satan, but wasn't it God's will for his son to die? So then Judas would actually have been doing the work of God. Same goes for Satan. God wanted humans to be tempted and fall to Lucifer because it is all part of the master plan.

This is all metaphorical of course, but you see where I'm going with this? Light and Dark co-exist. People go wrong when they try to pick a side. We need to live in balance and understanding that all is one. It is the division in our hearts that keep us from our true purpose.

Only one I can think of is Crowley - although he called his book 777, not 666!

The Eleven Satanic Rules of the Earth
Do not give opinions or advice unless you are asked.
Do not tell your troubles to others unless you are sure they want to hear them.
When in another’s home, show them respect or else do not go there.
If a guest in your home annoys you, treat them cruelly and without mercy.
Do not make sexual advances unless you are given the mating signal.
Do not take that which does not belong to you, unless it is a burden to the other person and they cry out to be relieved.
Acknowledge the power of magic if you have employed it successfully to obtain your desires. If you deny the power of magic after having called upon it with success, you will lose all you have obtained.

Do not kill non-human animals unless you are attacked or for your food.
When walking in open territory, bother no one. If someone bothers you, ask them to stop. If they do not stop, destroy them.

The Nine Satanic Sins
Stupidity — The top of the list for Satanic Sins, the Cardinal Sin. It’s too bad that stupidity isn’t painful. Ignorance is one thing, but our society thrives increasingly on stupidity. It depends on people going along with whatever they are told. The media promotes a cultivated stupidity as a posture that is not only acceptable but laudable. One must learn to see through the tricks and cannot afford to be stupid.
Pretentiousness—Empty posturing can be most irritating and isn’t applying the cardinal rules of Lesser Magic. On equal footing with stupidity for what keeps the money in circulation these days. Everyone’s made to feel like a big shot, whether they can come up with the goods or not.
Solipsism—Can be very dangerous. Projecting your reactions, responses and sensibilities onto someone who is probably far less attuned than you are. It is the mistake of expecting people to give you the same consideration, courtesy and respect that you naturally give them. They won’t. Instead, one must strive to apply the dictum of “Do unto others as they do unto you.” It’s work for most of us and requires constant vigilance lest you slip into a comfortable illusion of everyone being like you. As has been said, certain utopias would be ideal in a nation of philosophers, but unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, from a Machiavellian standpoint) we are far from that point.
Self-deceit—It’s in the “Nine Satanic Statements” but deserves to be repeated here. We must not pay homage to any of the sacred cows presented to us, including the roles we are expected to play ourselves. The only time self-deceit should be entered into is when it’s fun, and with awareness. But then, it’s not self-deceit!
Herd Conformity—That’s obvious - it’s all right to conform to a person’s wishes, if it ultimately benefits you. But only fools follow along with the herd, letting an impersonal entity dictate to you. The key is to choose a master wisely instead of being enslaved by the whims of the many.
Lack of Perspective—Again, this one can lead to a lot of pain. You must never lose sight of who and what you are, and what a threat you can be, by your very existence. We are making history right now, every day. Always keep the wider historical and social picture in mind. That is an important key to both Lesser and Greater Magic. See the patterns and fit things together as you want the pieces to fall into place. Do not be swayed by herd constraints—know that you are working on another level entirely from the rest of the world.
Forgetfulness of Past Orthodoxies—Be aware that this is one of the keys to brainwashing people into accepting something new and different, when in reality it’s something that was once widely accepted but is now presented in a new package. We are expected to rave about the genius of the creator and forget the original. This makes for a disposable society.
Counterproductive Pride—That first word is important. Pride is great up to the point you begin to throw out the baby with the bathwater. The rule of Satanism is: if it works for you, great. When it stops working for you, when you’ve painted yourself into a corner and the only way out is to say, I’m sorry, I made a mistake, I wish we could compromise somehow, then do it.
Lack of Aesthetics—This is the physical application of the Balance Factor. Aesthetics is important in Lesser Magic and should be cultivated. It is obvious that no one can collect any money off classical standards of beauty and form most of the time so they are discouraged in a consumer society, but an eye for beauty, for balance, is an essential tool and must be applied for greatest magical effectiveness. It’s not what’s supposed to be pleasing—it’s what is. Aesthetics is a personal thing, reflective of one’s own nature, but there are universally pleasing and harmonious configurations that should not be denied.

Now, when I compare that to:
I'm your only god
'Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me'
Don't talk shit about me, god
Take every Sunday off to be holy
Honour your parents
Don't kill (bacteria and animals and insects and shit are okay though)
Don't physically express love and affection to other women once you're married
Don't steal shit
Don't lie about seeing shit
Don't want shit I've forbidden, like houses (and women, as I said earlier)

Satan seems much more reasonable than Christ/god

I don't really see the point of Satanism. It tries to rebel against the virtuous order of Christianity, but by setting itself up as the dialectic opposite of Christian virtue it is still playing into the Christian paradigm.

If you want to be a selfish, apathetic asshole then go do it. I don't see why you have to call yourself a Satanist.

Only one I can think of is Crowley - although he called his book 777, not 666!
Crowley was not a Satanist. He despised the 'black brothers'. And 777 is simply a book of correspondences - perhaps you're thinking of the Book of the Law (Liber AL vel Legis). Nothing Satanic about either one, though.

'Satanism' certainly has it's points, as DeathDomokun nicely illuminates, but I think a lot of so-called satanists are really just deluded posers who use the title to make them seem cool.

No, I was thinking of "Magick Without Tears", "Mortadello", " The Heart of the Master", "Of The Nature Of The Gods", "The Necronomicon - Call of Cthulhu", and "Olla".

People are mentioning Crowley, what about Jack Parsons?

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/mad-science/jack-parsons/

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Whiteside_Parsons

That is what I did not understand about it either? I am not, have never been a Satanist, and never will be.

I have read a fair amount of true crime books and some serial killers like Richard Ramirez, Henry Lee Lucas, and Otis Toole all claimed to be Satanists but they are also psychopaths and in all cases I think they were more ego driven or wanted media attention or media control at the time.

Yes, Jack Parsons was quite an interesting individual. His book Freedom is a Two-Edged Sword gives a good picture of his thoughts.

Crowley didn't approve of Parsons doing the Babalon Working with L. Ron Hubbard, and his fears turned out to be well founded. Hubbard used many things he learned (stole?) from Crowley, Parsons and the O.T.O. when he founded Dianetics and Scientology, and we all know where that road has led.

Nevertheless, neither Parsons or Hubbard were Satanists. Whether or not they participated in any 'black' magick or did 'evil' deeds is another thing altogether.
