Uck, I've applied for the position a few times years ago and I definitely have quite a lot of time on my hands. I have EADD on refresh at all times on the computer. I just don't think I could handle the conflict resolution in a neutral manner.

Besides, I already perform my mod duties by reporting sourcery, and the like, in the wee hours of the morning when nobody else is about. I'll apply if I can get all of the mod prestige with only half of the responsibilities :D

You'd be surprised how quickly you get the hang of conflict and the rest of the detractors, trust me.
Plus, we absolutely always consult and reach a consensus in private before we act on any considerable level. I fucking suck at conflict resolution, I just don't have the patience Sham does, ergo I trust his opinion on such matters. We work as a team, come to the Dark Side and see for yourself. ;)

Well I did a three day course on conflict resolution and it did me no good at all....

I still have zero arsehole tollerance and fequently want to fight detractors :)

You must encounter a lot of imbeicles during your work, that have done truly stupid things, to end up need to call the Paramedics. Not gonna mentione any specific senarios, but if you really do have zero tolernace, which i doubt, you woulnt have lasted in your current job.

Conlict resolution esp between males is essentially a matter of reigning in any macho tendencies? I used to work in a post room, and oh my God by Boss was the biggest prat in existence. Arrogance beyond belief, anyone who didnt agree with him, or his way of thinking was by very reason as "thick as shit". We once had a fire drill and about 700 people had to be avacuated from our buillding, and a postal delievry driver got caught in the melee. It was my job to stop vehices excitting so that fire engines could enter. The guy was obvioulsy under severe time pressure and stress, id have let him through as the firee enines werent thera that second. My boss yelled at me infront of about 700 people as to why i hadnt stopped the driver. The driver simply ignored me. Then my boss started yelling at the postamn to "get back" all to no avail, the guy was very bullish revving his engine to clear a gap through the crowd.

He made the bigger fool of himself than me thats for sure,

What harm letting him go when the fire engines were not in sight. Even if not "protocol" does not common sense dictate sometimes?

Imo conflict resolution is just admiitting when you are wrong, and sometimes even having to pretend you are wrong , even when u r not. Im sure you could do it englandz. I wouldnt have minded trying, but with my year away, 95% of the members have changed and i dont know anyon1 anymore when i used to know everyone. Plus i need to focus all my energy on all the substance quits required, plus getting a new job.

This non concise ramble on the nature of conflict resolution will have sereved to scupper my chances anyway.:\

Yeah pretty much....

The general gist of the conflict resolution course was if some numpty starts giving you shit then just back off and walk away.

If they start getting really aggressive then radio for the Old Bill.

That's about it really.

I do have tollerance IRL just not so much on the internet as people can pretty much say any shit they want from behind a keyboard and never have to back it up...

IRL I'm pretty easy going......

Also I dont really want to do any moderating stuff and I doubt the mod team would want me to even if I did....

On and I meant to ask how you got on with volumetrically measuring those subs that we were discussing the other day?

May I please ask that this thread is kept OT?
It would be greatly appreciated. :)

[See, could have been a bit o' conflict there.... ;) ].

lol, did no-one apply?

I'm not getting berated by BCF, Josh, Sid etc for any less than minimum wage.

Somehow being berated for free doesn't seem any better.

I'm afraid you are entirely wrong in your assumption, and as such you are welcome to suck on the new blood's ModStick at your leisure and their pleasure... ;)

We do it for free because we genuinely feel passionate about BL, we get berated by those who feel passionate enough about BL to vocalise it rather than log out.
It's a contradictory position, to say the least. The actual 'work' portion is a piece of piss, anything else is above and beyond out of choice and motivation than dutiful completion. Until you experience the shift personally it's nigh on impossible to comprehend how far removed our contribution is from the wider perception.

Unbelievably rewarding but undeniably exhausting.
EADD, my home. <3

I have been giving this some thought. On one hand there is the fact that i do enjoy coming here and would like to contribute in a meaningful way as at the moment my current contributions are mainly thread derailing and flogging a months old telly joke. Modding may be the answer to that.
On the other hand my experience modding at Overgrow was a bit mixed. Granted Overgrow was a much busier site than Bluelight. It was probably the busiest drug forum ever on the internet at its height. So the workload was significantly greater i would imagine. But modding took up so much of my time dealing with trolls who were a much bigger problem there than here and flame wars between members it detracted from my enjoyment of the site. Not to mention the behind the scenes politics that were going on there with take over of the site by a large Canadian seedbank and a lot of long term staff being sidelined or removed. The site was eventually taken down by the Canadian cops and the DEA. I had a lot of images of grows etc on that forum when they seized the server and I am positive that my name was passed on to authorities here as every time i pass through customs i get pulled out of the line and given a 2 hour search. But i digress. I am now considering applying but still unsure about if becoming a mod will ruin my joy i get from EADD. Is there a deadline to apply?

^ I'm not familiar with the forum you mention but it does sound like things are probably a little more laid back here - especially in EADD. Well... mostly. It tends to mostly consist of long periods of calm where there's not huge amounts to do other than the basic donkey work of archiving and renewing threads, dealing with the odd bit of spam, occasional light taps of the stick to stop situations escalating to the point that hefty thwacks with the stick are required (yeah, we know that it doesn't always work out that way but more often than not) and then we'll suddenly get a flurry of stuff out of nowhere that all needs doing at once just to keep us on our toes.

Despite a common perception, we actually try to keep moderation to a minimum here in EADD. This place is very much a community and heavy moderation doesn't fit well with that model. Obviously there are times where lines have to be drawn but, generally speaking, we'd rather de-escalate any given situation, or deal with anything short of blatant and repeated infrigements, using soft moderation approaches (PMs, posting politely firm requests in relevant threads, etc) than by diving in and cracking heads. Think school teacher - and sometimes social worker - rather than police officer or drill sergeant. Although quoting from Full Metal Jacket is always a bonus. We don't always get it right but the intent is as outlined above.

The deadline is still to be confirmed but think sooner rather than later. Now things have settled down to more normal EADD rhythms we will be focussed mainly on choosing the new mod. I've suggested a deadline for the end of this week but that is not definite at the moment. We have some good applications to choose from but the more the merrier. I would recommend anybody who is on the fence gets their app in ASAP because these things tend to run on BL time so the sooner we get to final deliberations the sooner we can bequeath the sacred stick.

Thanks to all those who have applied so far and get 'em in sharpish anybody who would like to make a difficult decision all the harder.

To echo a point made clearly enough already: anyone with any slight interest in the position really should pull their finger, or the lubed-up oral syringe dependent upon your current state of degenerate druggage, out and throw a couple of sentences together as an actual application.
The worst that can happen is your name and interest is atop the list next time, that or you get the ultimate opportunity to craft this place and revel in misplaced delusion of grandeur. ;)

But in all seriousness, it ain't half as bad as it's made it out to be.
Not so much poisoned chalice as a porcelain dinner set with three bits missing and an assortment of plastic cutlery.... <3

Can I request that applications for EADD mods ONLY be accepted from residents of Europe or Africa? Please...

(If that Consumer becomes a mod, my life will be hell and I'll be forced to go and troll the Aussie forum out of sheer spite)

You could always out-apply him, Fubz ;)

We've never had a non-European moderator here in EADD afaik but we have often had non-Euro smods overseeing the place. Aside from my Good Lady Sadie of course but she is very much a Glaswegian-Texan and certainly one of our own. I'd say the biggest factor - or certainly one of the biggest - is to know and understand the forum and its members. The community thing really is important. EADD has always had its own flavour and ways of doing things and any new member of staff needs to have a reasonable understanding of this or be willing and keen to learn as they go. That's not to say things should always stay the same because they have always been a certain way but it definitely helps to have an understanding of the aspects of EADD that make it EADD.

tl;dr - Anybody who really wants to get involved on the staff side of things is most welcome to apply. Any Aussies applying will need to supply their own prawns and barbies though as we only have potted shrimp and jellied eels available locally.

I have decided against it. I think i will just hang around and sell my tellys.

Phew! Glad to hear it man! The thought of receiving bollockings off YOU for derailing threads didn't bear thinking about... :)

If I can do it, and by general consensus none too shabbily (suck my stick of grandiosity), I would be interested to hear the excuses of the fence-sitters. ;)

Thanks for the reminder FUBAR. Enough with thread derailments! Das ist Vorboten. Ja? This is your friendly reminder that HR threads ( as much as possible ) remain HR. Anything else please take it to a social thread.

And that, my friends, is how to hypocritically derail a thread.

As you were....
