Agh, I remembered as I drifted off to sleep; perhaps this is some of the 'wokeness' in the new version, the Orange Catholic Bible is completely omitted, as was the character of Feyd Rautha (very, very integral to the plot...), so now I'm like... wait, how will part two end if Feyd isn't there?! And what has Dennis got against the O.C. Bible? In the future, I'm 100% certain Catholicism will survive and thrive as we see in the book. It's already 2000 years old as a faith and people aren't dropping their faith any time soon. Not to mention, the O.C. Bible plays into further religious intrigue in the book, so leaving it out and focusing solely on the Bene Gesserit/Fremen for theology kinda leaves it feeling more bland.
I realize it is a long novel, and hard to adapt. But David Lynch managed to include these plot points, even if Sting was cast as Feyd... at least he existed!
Oh yeah, and Baron Harkonnen is suspiciously un-pedophilic in Dennis's adaptation. In the book and in Lynch's version (IIRC) he was a fucking disgusting boy fucker of a man, it plays into the feudal nature of Dune... history repeats itself. Disgusting fat despots have always liked young boys going back to the beginning of time.
Not too important to the plot, but just goes to show how much I'm suddenly realizing this adaptation left out.
