[MELB] SUNSHINE PEOPLE! NYD @ South Atlantic Wharf

Definately the best NY party ive been to in ages!!

I wasn't too sure what to expect from CJ Bolland, as i thought he would play a lot of Commercial / Anthem style techno.... But i was very pleasantly suprised at how hard he played, he really looked like he was enjoying himself behind the Decks.

what a day :D

undoubtedly the WORST party I have ever attended.

Poor setup, no good chillout space and full of seedy 'candied-up' people.

I spent the bulk of my day sitting on the grass under a tree out the front of the exhibition centre.

I hope, for everyone's sake, that they don't put this on next year.

I'm kicking myself for not attending summa dayze, or keeping my $50.

are you fucking serious?! it was awesome, the people where mad, the music was even better, altho just wasn't loud enough! even standing next to the speakers. But anyone that saw James Lawson and Kai Tracid play cld not honestly say it wasn't just crazy. both had so much energy and then were willing to talk to the crowd well after finishing their sets.

i do agree the setup was very confusing, leaving the venue to get into another room. but other than that one of the best days of my life.

can't wait 4 next year!

Wicked day the music was unreal really enjoyed the international DJ's they play some great sets. the set up wasn't that good and the first aid area was really hard to find but other than the layout of the event being bad it was a good day

i had a fucking awesome time this day sitting aroiund under trees near the exhibition center and still being able to hear hard trance playing.... i thought the venue was fucking pathetic and the organisation on the day was even worse...... turned up at like midday to get told at the gate that there were no more tickets, then coming back 2 hours later and getting told that they forgot about tickets being sold on the door........

if its held again at the same time next new years i think i will still go but hang around near the exhibition center again just getting fucking gakked and lying on the grass......

as far as kai tracids set..... haha, i went there to see him play but couldnt move from under a tree by 7: 30 or whenever it was..... Awesome day though.... in general.

Much more shade was needed in the venue as well....... Got sooo sunburned..... and G and the hot sun dont mix well either..
DfI;)

all i can say is the boat, what a ride, when *unsure of dj's name on boat"* dropped mr ozio - flat beat, that was the funkiest shit ever.. thats where the fun was at :)

fuckin great party.....pros + cons, or cons and pros actually...

Cons:

- Badly set up re: rooms (trying to get from one to the other was a major production...)
- More shade needed outside...much more!
- Food people!!!!! FOOD!!!!!! It's a whole fucking day...it's just plain irresponsible!

Pros:

-Everything else!
- James Lawson fuckin rocked.....i was looking forward to the man and he didn't disapoint! Hard House was the fucking shit on the day.....well helped along by Kelsta + Benny Drohan (their set was brill too)...
- Klassic + sanders, Hellraiser (and hearing a heap of his new records....which may appear on Pharmacy 002 ;)), and parts of Kai.....his hard trance was pretty good, but his set was a little all over the shop.....acid trance one sec, uplifting the next, then hard, then tech.....was hard to get into....but good none the less :)
- The great, happy-to-be-there crowd!! Very friendly and energetic....i went alone but met lots of people.....was fantastic....

If this is on next year again, i'll be there :D Hope others had as brilliant time :) Later.....

Pro's:

The boat absolutely rocked.

The crowd was all in great spirits, everyone wanted to be there and was trying to have a mad time against great odds.

Security was everywhere - they were alert and on top of just about everything - was good.

Maybe it got better after 9? Our group of 10 couldnt stand to hang around anymore past this and we bolted.

Con's:

Everything else about this entire event.

The last few events Hardware related parties I've got this feeling the punters are being absolutely fucked over with the single intention of getting as many people into as poorly a facilited location as is humanly possible without someone dying - and still taking our cash.

None of the staff had a clue what was going on - I asked up to 10 people just to tell me the actual lay out of the rooms or even which was Planet Hardware.

Thanks heaps though for providing the 5 or so reed matts to lay over the only small section of covered concrete on a 30+ degree day. Cough.

Total lack of food ? Good work there.

Having to go through public space and thus have bags security checked upon reentering the first room and having to dump the SEALED BOTTLES that were just bought because 'bottles arent allowed' - Again, mad props on this one.

Hell, they even got to save what I assume is a fair wad of cash on decor because apart from 4 speaker stacks per room, that seemed it.

They didnt even get this right actually... Not sure if it was CJ or Kai but they were running with headphones only, the two speaker stacks on either side of the DJ were turned off.

What can I say ? This just sucked... Music wise the day seemed to just churn out fairly mindless, repetative crap. You'd swear everyone was just walking for a smoke and letting 'the best of Hard trance' play on repeat.

Closing words? They managed to get an alternative to SummaDayze up, and for that I'm thankful - but if they were just going to rip off 3,000 people and put them through inhuman conditions what was the bloody point?

Oh yeah and it cost $10 to get in to see the promised Cubans because they were actually inside the Alumbra bar, not part of the rave.

-------------------------------

As for New Years 2003 - went off muchly. Before Sunshine and after it - many thanks to the mad, mad people who partied through for 20+ hours post with me :)

cookie-monster wtf did u expect? I went to watch klasic and sanders and kai tracid and have a bit of a boogie... it was fucking mad. Everyone looked trashed but it was NYD ffs.

w00t. Now to put humpty dumpty back together again :(

Totally agree Cookie Monster.
The setup, running and management of the event was fucking terrible. Trying to get around the event was almost impossible and asking organisers and security where to go to and what to do didn't work too well either, they didn't seem to know what was happening. I'd say the biggest pain in the ass was having to leave the event to go to different rooms, this meant having to go in and out with a water bottle. I had 4 water bottles taken off me for the day for trying to bring them back into the event through just general commuting from room to room. I find this totally irresponsible particularly on a hot day.
I still enjoyed the day - sitting out on the grass under a tree with friends getting fucked up and talking shit. However, the same could have been achieved by sitting in a backyard with friends and chilling. Was a waste of money.

worst event ever i have been to, poor setup, security were absolute fucks, those toilets were RANK! music was way too hard for a day party!
Kai Tracid and James Lawson were the only highlight! what a waste of $50 and a day!
summadayze next yr!

^^^ I hear all those gripes people have re: water bottles, layout, setup, people having no idea, etc.....i had a fucking top day regardless......

I thought it was a great day anyhow and had a brill time! =D

im with you mate, it was an awesome day. i loved every minute of it. i got around the problems w\ changing rooms by just staying in the riot room.

i think it came down to what you did the night b4 i had an easy night at a friends place and this was my day to go nuts so it was perfect. the only thing that cld have made it better was if it was held at the myer music bowl, same music and the same crowd that wld have rocked!

djwombat you fucking pussy. It was a hard techno and trance party, if you don't like it, then STAY HOME NEXT tIME you won't be missed trust me.

I have to agree with CynaKill on this one, djwombat what is it with that too hard for a day thing? Its never too hard, if you want something soft then either stay home and listen to australian idol hits or go to summadayze with all the little 17yr old junkies and housey piss! ;)

From posts I have read from you u wombat you prefer the worst genre trance style from ppl like Scott Alert over magicians, YUK! Ah well! Its only my opinion champ ;)

Almost decided to go to this, but at about 8am on NYD I just crashed and fell asleep. After I woke up at 12 I realised that it was probably better if I just stayed home, and it looks like I made the right choice.....

I'm sure the music would have been good, just I know I couldn't have been bothered with any disorganisation....

It was a real hot day... when I arrived I didn't get the layout, but once I figured out where I wanted to be it was a cool enough way to spend new years day IMO. We snuck into Alumbra for a few beers during the hottest part of the day, to my delight it was airconditioned in there. I was pretty happy to trade off some of the DJ sets for some latin rhythms, cool air and ice cold stella at that point in the event :) I enjoyed the music in the techno room at Sunshine People, although at times I was feeling a bit too exhausted to get into it. After the party finished we kicked back to Alumbra for a couple more housey hours and then figured we'd seen in 2004 well enough.

Some of the bar staff at sunshine people were pretty nailed hehehe, one of the chicks kept giving everyone the wrong change because she was either too tired or high to count I think...

BigTrancer :)

I think we all have established that the entire layout of the event was very confusing and poorly planned by the promoters.

But seriously what the fuck do you go to a party for?? to analyse the floor plans, and count how many shaded areas there are... I dont think so.

You go to listen to the music, dance, and socialise with your mates. It took me and my mates a whole 10-15 minutes to figure out where everything was, its not like it was a brainteaser or anything. So why is everyone complaining about it? The solution is simple, if you didnt like it PLEASE dont come again next year :p

The music was hard, the weather was nice, the crowd was into it, so what more could you ask for NYD party?

the point is that people pay good money to go to a party such as sunshine people and expect that for thier money that things are run and organised properly. Yeah it probably is a bit harsh to complain about the music being too hard for a day event because anyone who went should have known who was playing and what music would be played. I think the crowd was pretty seedy and full of kandy kids, not the ideal crowd i wanted to spend nyd with but hey guess it was kind of expected for a nyd celebration.

But yes from my experience of this party I wont be going to it next year, in general waste of money, time and effort to get to the city to do something (chilling with mates under a tree) i could have done at home.

Would be interesting to conduct a poll on who would go back to the event next year. Can we do that on here? Post a 'Yes' or 'No' for if u would go to this event again. Could be interesting.

I'll start NO
