Snorting stuff/losing sense of smell.

Is it possible to lose your sense of smell after snorting corrosive stuff like some of the RC's out there?

If so, how much would you actually have to snort?

Do I have to be worried about snorting shit, like a few hundred mg's of ethylphenidate a month (very spread-out, allowing my nose to heal).

I've never heard of losing sense of smell from snorting unless it was some strange chemical. You should be fine from that, you may come across other problems from snorting though.

Stuffed noses is what usually happens but sense of smell is unlikely unless some unknown burnt your inner nose.

Olfactory nerves are the only nerves in the human body that regenerate consistently. Even if you damage them, they'll get replaced. I'm sure there's a limit to how much damage/healing the body can take, but I wouldn't be too concerned.

At times of binges with x and benzos, snorting ambien, xanax, and klonopin& snorting alot of ecstasy caused me to the point my nose was so fucked up i coulden't smell anything. Didn't really bother me much, but when someone put a bottle of absolute vodka in front of me, i tried to smell the alcohol and couldent smell anything even with my nose to the opening. I was quite shocked. Everyone else was saying they could smell it as soon as the bottle opened, but not me.

You'll probably be alright. I've heard they regenerate themselves as well.
Plus, vodka doesn't smell too good anyway.

I was thinking though, if you can't smell anything, it would probably be a good idea to check the
batteries in your smoke detecter. There's my harm reduction post for the day.:)

Take care!

why the hell are you snorting xanax, klonopin, ambien and all that shit dude? what a waste..no wonder you could'nt smell anything you clogged your nose up with bullshit.

^^^Not a single one of those drugs is meant to be snorted. They all actually work less efficient when snorted.
Alprazolam8129, please, swallow those pills. I am saying this as I snort a Subutex, so I am in no way anti-pill snorting. But this ROA gives a higher BA. This is a concept you should read into. Really.

I thought snorting pills was stupid a year ago, then I snorted roxi's & morphine pills & thought, so this is what all the excitement is about, the high is definitely better & faster but after a few months of off & on snorting, my nose would always be stuffed up........so I stopped snorting pills. Hate the fact that I always had a stuffed nose & felt like I had a cold, no thanks!

Snorting irritant drugs can damage the mucosa in your nose and this could affect your sense of smell if it progressed to scarring/permanent tissue destruction even if your olfactory nerve endings were intact. If you feel like the lining of your nose is becoming inflammed (it is painful, dry, bleeding etc) then it would be sensible to take a break from insufflating and to take measures to prevent this in the future such as snorting water/saline in between lines, using a nasal spray/douche, taking breaks between snorting or using an alternative ROA.

Don't use a decongestant too much - this works by reducing the volume of your nasal tissues by constricting the blood vessels. If you have irritated the tissue then it needs a good blood supply to repair itself. This is why vasoconstrictive stimulants such as cocaine can cause such damage to the nose.

There isn't much research on most RCs (the name is a misnomer) so you don't know how damaging they are going to be or what a safe limit would be to prevent harm - best to be cautious and take measures to keep your nose healthy with any drug you snort. Fillers and binders in pills aren't great things to have inside your nose either - they can clog your sinuses and predispose you to infection, and can also fly into your lungs causing damage there.

wrong, ambien snorting is a guilty pleasure. Benzos you are right

^^I don't think you're correct, but would love to be proven wrong and learn something new! Mind sending me a link with intranasal BA?

From that BA mega thread I read that its BA is not higher when you blow it...it's just the onset is slighting faster and thus people may think the BA is higher. (My guess for the increase in onset is the fact that it's crushed...and going from your nose down to your belly)

Iv'e snorted a shit load of drugs in my time and my nose is fine. I don't think you can actually LOSE your sense of smell, maybe for that day or a couple days after it could get clogged up and difficult to smell, but in my opinion Iv'e never heard of such a thing to effect permeantly.

Ambien, xanax, vics, percs, oxys, morphine, klonopin, coke, heroin, meth, ecstasy, hydromorphone...I know I'm missing some haha but my nose has been through alot and it's doing alright.

My friend has been snorting coke for 11 years. He has a hole the size of my pinky finger in his nasal septum. Needless to say he has a very bad sense of smell... :/

My mum went on an antibiotic which took her sense of smell for good. All gone. She didn't snort it though. ;)

That person didn't come at you in an offensive way, no need to respond as such. In fact they just gave you information to get the most out of the chemicals being discussed.

Anyhow, I don't know how these two would be related aside from the obvious corrosion.

I have experienced a similar loss in smell from insulfation of chemicals and even though i give myself several months now to let my nose recover i have not been able to smell things unless they have a very pungent odor. Although my smell has improved slightly. I have been able to find any conclusive reports on if this is irrepricable damage and would welcome any informatio
