In my head
I have 80mg zolpidem left. I also have a decent benzo tolerance, but I've discovered in the past that a normal / slightly big dose of zopiclone makes me sleepy, my point being the cross-tolerance isn't that big or hasn't been that big for me personally.

My question is: since it's quite similar to the benzo's, is it possible to get a benzo-ish 'high' by taking zolpidem? When I say benzo-ish rush I mean like the rush you get from benzos that aren't exclusively hypnotics but also anxiolytics, like alprazolam or bromazepam or even nitrazepam for instance.

I know it's not the intended use of the drug, but it's not something I was prescribed, it's 'merely' something I picked up from a friend and I'd like to try it, but I have other sleep aids like seroquel and obviously I'm not interested in just becoming extremely sedated.

Thanks alot in advance.

Hi, and sorry, BL isn't here to help you getting high. You will become "extremely sedated" if you're abusing zolpidem.

Yes the z-type hypnotics will produce a benzo like buzz ime. When i was taking large amounts of alprazolam and clonazepam i would use ambien or lunesta when i ran out. It works on the same receptors as benzodiazepines.

"Hi, and sorry, BL isn't here to help you getting high "

BLuelight is here for harm reduction.....people are going to do what they're going to do. Why not help them to do so in a safe manner.. give them ballpark dosing and make sure they're informed of the risks.

Thank you to both of you for your replies, and while I know a big reason why BL is here is harm reduction I must say I think SteeleyJ makes a good point.

He does. But please, you can use other ways to put it than using the sentence: "Can this make me high/how". It's all about choosing the right words ;)

I don't see the connection between linguistics and harm reduction. I could have said 'if ingested in a big dose, would this substance make my brain release neurotransmitters that make me feel good?'. But the meaning of that line is exactly the same as the one I used in my first post. At least I was straight forward in the first post :) And I don't believe in 'right' or 'wrong' words. I believe in context, though.

the only way ambein was anything like a rush to me was when i IVed it and i don't recommend that unless you use a micron filter

Z-drugs like Zolpidem do not produce a high like Benzo's. Zolpidem will make you very mentally loopy and see/think weirdly. Besides the sedation, I don't think there is much of a comparison between the two. Benzo's chill you out to the "I really couldn't care less" feeling, zolpidem chills you out and loops you out in the "Man, those zebra flying dragons outside are really calming when I play with my rainforest fork tonight" kind of way. It's really funky but I love it.

Ambien is so not a recreational drug, IMO. Not to mention abusing zolpidem will screw up your sleep patterns & if you end up with insomnia (which I'd never wish on anyone) your tolerance will screw you on gettin the desired result to fall asleep.
All this is only my opinion and experience...

The effectiveness of Zolpidem does seem to vary significantly from person to person, personally I did not find them use for sleep for more than a week at most and even then only a bit. Tolerance rose even quicker than straight up Benzos and the effects were really not worth the awful backlash of even a few days heavy usage, Z drugs are pretty much all they will give you in the UK for insomnia and for me they just don' work, I dislike them so much I've even turned down a free script for them.

I used to abuse this stuff, its interesting but didnt turn out well. Not recommended. Sleep driving and taking 10 tabs due to insane tolerance and ending up in hospital can happen.
