Zolpidem and Amitriptyline(Question)

I've been snorting 10mg Ambien(Zolpidem) tabs for a while now. And I've ran completely dry, no more left.
My question is,
Is Zolpidem and Amitriptyline anything alike?

..I ask this because I do happen to have 4 10mg Amitriptyline's.
Now i've heard about the risks of taking Zolpidem with Amitriptyline. But it has been about a week since I've had Zolpidem in my system.

Im just wondering because im having a hard time quiting the Ambien's cold turkey.
 
They're nothing alike. Amitriptyline inhibits serotonin and norepinephrine reputake, whereas Zolpidem acts on GABA (either indirectly or directly, or both, I forget). Amitriptyline is used as an antidepressant, but as far as I know it won't necessarily make you go to sleep. Some antidepressants make people tired, but then again, the same antidepressant may make a different person stay awake for 8 hours, there's just no telling how you'll react.

If you're already dry on the zolpidem, I don't think amitriptyline will help you much, sorry bud. Maybe try valerian, 5-htp, or melotonin if you need a sleep aid. Your sleep schedule should start returning to normal soon though, even without other pharmacological aids.

However, Amytriptyline is prescribed for insomnia, and in my experience works. Doesn't work as well as Ambien, but it could help you sleep. That's all it would be good for though
 
Well then, a normal dose of zolpidem for me is anywhere from 20-30mgs.
Has anyone out there taken Amitriptyline?

What dosage would you recommend for someone who isn't new to insomnia/antidepressants/opioid pills?
 
I appreciate the info, i'll take 2 tonight. And if I feel alright an hour later i'll take the other 2. Im ready for some sleeeep :]
 
I'd just stick to 20mg for now. That should knock you out efficiently.
There's no danger of combining the two either.. Don't know where you heard that.
 
Yes heuristic, taking it orally after such prolonged use doesn't help much. I have to ingest at least 30mg's orally to get what I get from snorting one 10mg.

It helps me conserve and the effects come much quicker.
Sometimes me and a friend will take it for recreational purposes but its mainly to help my problems with sleeping.

Im not saying its right that I snort them, because I know its terrible. But its just what i've come to. And its self choice.

I just read that CNS depressants like Amitriptyline can be affected by zolpidem. Now weather affected means make it more the effects more powerful, or seem more so. Or if it leads to somthing more potentially deadly.

It will just increase the sedatory effects. Tricyclics like Amitriptyline produce some respiratory depression, but not much. I'm safe taking 225mg of Dosulepin (the largest scripted dose outside of wards) along with Heroin and Temazepam. But ofcourse it's always very wise to watch your doses.

So to say, I managed to find one of my Ambiens, i could mix the two with no problem? Because I have the 4 amitriptyline, but I found one of my old ambien bottles and I have one 10mg here with me. But 1 wont do much, so would it be safe to take the ambien then wait a few then take the amitrips?
 
if out of ambien 50-100mg of elavil will def put you to sleep that stuff is similar to flexeril just more sedating
 
Thank you guys for the info, It worked out well for me lastnight. Happened to find 1 single 10mg ambien. Took 2 of the Amitriptyline's and 20minutes later snorted my 1 ambien. And I was in bed and slept wondefuly, without any interruptions through the night.

you are surprised? seriously? i was the same way, tolerance is a bitch with these things. i went from popping 1 pill everyday to popping 3 in a week to snorting 1 every night to snorting 2 in a week. and when i ran out ohhhh the w/d :(

glad im off them now though and my tolerance is rock bottom :) so now i can snort to hallucinate big timeee
 
You can put a smaller dose of either zolpidem or zopiclone under your tongue, it will hit faster and you need less (tolerance wise).
