Zoloft . . .

Just got perscribed Zoloft because I have been
struggling with some things for the past few
years. Anyway, the medication reads that it
should not be combined with alcohol at all.
I've seen other meds that say this too, so how
truthful is it? Can I drink while on the med?
Or is it really not advisable, thanks.

I drank every so often while I was taking Zoloft, and I didn't notice any negative side effects. Drinking won't hurt you, just do it in moderation.

they say not to drink for two reasons
1) your tolerance is lowered and where as many drinks would make you dizzy and such, only a few will have this effect
2) alcohol rasies the bad side effects of zoloft and lowers the good effects
if you are pesribed it for depression, alcohol is a depressent... it will lower the effects it has to raise your mood and "fight" the depression.
the use of any drugs, including alcohol, while being depressed may contiribute to relapses into depression or bad feelings after effects

You CAN drink on Zoloft and other SSRIs...your alcohol tolerance will probably be lowered a bit...but it's not a dangerous combination.

Like fairnymph said, you can drink on Zoloft, despite the warning (you'll notice that warning appears on basically ANY medication). You may have a somewhat lowered tolerance, though, and many people say drinking isn't nearly as fun -- easier to get sick, dizzy, etc. Still, you can certainly try it, and see how it works for you.

One more thing about Zoloft, if you're on it don't stop taking it for very long if you intend to stay on it.
They call one of the side effects "loose stool", but it's more like going off like an "ass shotgun", of sorts...
