What is your word of the day?

Today mine is Backpfeifengesicht...it's German for a face that is badly in need of a fist=D

Nice word Owen.
My word is ThankFuckThat'sOver, not strictly one word but it's how I feel as no more chemo after this week, fingers crossed.

^ I like how they look too. Apparently my "birth stone". Dunno 'bout that but always have been my fave semi-precious (but quite precious to me) gemstone. I also like how it sounds.

I didn't have a word of the day until I read the "I like how it sounds" whereupon "loquacious" popped into mind cos I always did like the way that sounds.

Slangwhanger - a loud abusive speaker or obnoxious writer

Excellent word =D

I damn near added that one to my choice but thought it greedy to have two in one post. Damn fine word though =D

Does it sound like what it means? Not really but once you know what it means it kinda does I always thought. In a rather abstract way admittedly.

Think I have the word theme on the brain cos next pleasing-sounding word that pops to mind is "circumlocution" - a thing I never do indulge in. No no no not never not I.

Ooh lucky, my birthstone's peridot. I think. Loquacious is also a great word and I guess kinda apt for the thread

As reminded by some programme recently (was Newsnight I think actually) that brought the subject up. If you can get it in Scrabble you're probably gonna win... antidisestablishmentarianism. I'm actually not anti disestablishmentarianism myself but rather in favour of it.

Bonus points for anybody who can come within a reasonable range of guessing the longest word in the English language - without googling obviously. As a hint, I don't think you could actually fit in into a single post ;)

Psithurism-the sound of wind through the trees.

A word I always like to teach non-Dutch visitors is Geslachtsgemeenschap-meaning sexual intercourse

^ I agree, perhaps my favourite word so far actually.

The somewhat Teutonic theme reminded me of a German word somebody told me of quite recently which tickled me immensely at the time. I did hear it pronounced (although doubt I'd attempt it myself given memories of German lessons at school :!) and it sounded for all the world like somebody sneezing to me. It's probably not the finest word ever but did amuse me greatly for a while. I do believe drugs were also involved...
