The sharing of pain

The sharing, perception, absorbing, soothing of our loved ones' pain has been a recurring theme in my life and relationships.

Some people are more empathic to the point where they feel pain from people who don't even know they are expressing it, or have any.

Sometimes individual pain between two damaged, empathic people pushes them apart. It has for me a few times - the pain was too great for us both, and we could not take both our own pain, and that of the other. The relationship could not last. The sharing of pain is a dangerous business in a relationship, and I feel you know you are truly loved when someone can take your pain, absorb it, disperse it, and not leave you.

I enjoyed this poem quite a lot - it hits me on a personal level, I wish it were longer.
