"As the elders use to say, 'If you drink too much root, you must walk backwards, so the ground does not come up to greet you'. The Hawaiian kava is unusually potent and suits the needs for long and pleasant ceremonies that are conducive to sociability and the telling of long stories." -

What do you think of it?

DO NOT CITE SOURCES - I AM GETTING SO PISSED OFF WITH FUCKIN' IDIOTS WHO DON'T THINK THAT APPLIES TO THEM

I think the rules require you edit out the name of where you got it.

Anyway, the first time I took kava was when I stole two bottles of regular pills from a wallgreens pharmacy and ate them both at the same time. I got rocked with a pleasure high that honest to god rivaled smoked heroin.

Then I stole the rest of the wallgreens supply, but couldnt duplicate the effects. Then I bought it from nearly every online store, including the one you mention, but could never duplicate the effects. I even ate a quarter oz of the 80% extract at once, but goddamnit, I can't feel a thing from that shit. I still have a qp of the top of the line powdered root laying around somewhere.

Kava kava is gritty but is rather pleasant in high doses.
Valerian is the one that smells bad, but it is pleasant too in its own way.

Commercially available kava kava preparations have a hepatoxic (liver damaging) impurity in them that is discarded when indigenous peoples indulge in kava. They ingest huge amounts.

Pure, USP grade kawain would be a welcome addition to the Pharmacopeia.

Chemically, kawain is (6R)-5,6-dihyrdo-4-methoxy-6-[(1E)-2-phenylethenyl]-2H-pyran-2-one.

Tried some gelcaps from a health food store once. It didn't boost my mood, but it almost boosted my lunch.

I assume it's more effective if fresh and prepared properly. Unfortunately, where I live there's a shortage of native village women willing to masticate the root for me. (If you know what I mean!)

I have forgotten kava... good quality lateral roots (only roots) are good and effective, nice buzz. They shouldn't be hepatoxic... the stem is, if I remember it right. Some coutries have banned whole kava because it is thought to be toxic...

Do you guys think that someone with a high tolerance to Benzos and downers
can feel something from Kava?

I think anyone can experience lifted moods from Kava Kava.. I think you'd be safe Jason.. so why not give it a shot?..

If I buy Kava, I won't have any money left to buy Alcohol and Pharms like Cimetidine and Promethazine this week...

So I got to be sure the effects are not a joke compared to benzos or other downers....

I've always found Kava to be somewhat relaxing, and can take the edge off. But in terms of a euphoriant, etc, it isn't for me. I'd spend your money on Kratom instead of Kava if that's what you're looking for (But not from the same vendor, they charge WAYYYY too much. Even for the Kava).

It is somewhat relaxing although a blue lotus extract i ordered worked much better. Kava i really like becaause it makes my mouth numb when drinkin tea of it. For an example today i made soem amanita, yea amanita muscaria tea.
this stuff tastes awful so i throw in some kava with a normal tea bag, and it really really really helps.
I would do the same thing whenever drinkin gross herbal drinks such as lsa, syrian rue ayahausca. etc.

by the way im trippin cause this tea so i hgope that went out ok. =D
never smoke kava, friend of mine made that mistake. awful taste doesnt go away and no effects.:|

^hypostatize: i agree go for kratom instead for the buzz.

Read up on Kava as some people have a bad reaction to it and their livers give out killing them.

Liver problems after one single dose?

Hmph. If there's something good, there has be something bad also ... :\

I read about kava from a book about psychiatric medicines. It stated, that the kavapyrones and kavalactones in kava have affinity to GABA and benzodiazepine receptors and glutamate receptors also. I got interested about it mainly, because the mentioning about the affinity to benzodiazepine receptors.

It was good to know, that the extract the health stores sell isn't going to be good for intoxication. I wonder why? It would've been neat if I could've just grabbed a bottle of kava extract from health store and enjoy it, but I guess I have to get some plant material and make the extract myself. :D

Well, nah, I'm too lazy for something like that. :)

from what others have said here, store extracts don't work, but i'm going to try it anyway as i already ordered it a while ago. [since there are more than one kavalactones, perhaps the 'better' ones arent preserved as much in the extraction, so even with standardized % kavalactones it wont get you high]

but i can hope

i have 300mg capsules, standardized 30% kavalactones, ie, 100mg kavalactones per capsule

what is a common kava dose? i'm thinking two capsules to start

p.s. i also have a little baggy of powdered kava (it was 1 cent heh) so i will be able to compare. don't know dosage info for ground kava either (i've read 2-4g for a tea)
