I had been prescribed Sonata, which, in my opinion is some nsty shit, and useless (more or less) unless you triple the dose.
Few days ago, Ambien. I love it! Regrettably, my insurance doesn't cover the fuckes.
The parmacy dude recommended Restoril or trazadone.
Due to my exprementation a couple weeks ago with Ativan, I adore benzodiazapenes, and I think trazadone is one.
But a) my doc don't like benzos 4 sleep
and b) I'm mainly converned with good sleep, not how high I can get.
Any suggestions?
Love

My rating of sleep tablets (the one's I have used):
1: Temazepan (benzo)
Will knock you out, and has the classic benzo downer warmth. Smallest hangover of all the benzos I have tried.
2: Diazepam (Valium, benzo)
You probably need a slightly higher dose than Temazepan to go to sleep. Doesn't make you quite so sleepy as Temaz, so it is better to take a couple of hours before bed. Worse hangover effect than Temaz.
3: Stilnox (not sure of active ingredient)
This is a funny one. My Dr. says that it's not technically a benzo becuase it only acts on one of the three areas of the brain that benzos operate on, the sleep regulating area. This stuff will really knock you out but can make you feel wierd before you go to sleep and promotes strange dreams IMO. The other night I took 4 and went crazy. I don't remember anything but I apparently drank half a bottle of whisky and was up 'till 4 in the morning telling my dad my inner most secrets. Very strange.
4: Alprozalam (Xanax, benzo)
This is more of an anxielitic than a sleeping pill but will still bomb you out. The best benzo IMO to chill with. It is possible to take a dose in the morning and redose during the day, and finish with a final dose in the evening. Will promote restful sleep with a marginal hangover.
5: Pherenol (OTC antihistamine)
My Dr. told me to take 25mgs of this shit in order to reduce my Stilnox intake. I took it and it completely bombed me out. I could not keep my eyes open when it kicked in about half an hour after I took it. Even after sleeping for 10 hours (I usually sleep for six) I woke up with the worst hangover. A terrible cloudy brain, uggh it was awful. I took half the dose last night and today I am feeling OK.
You can also try: Alcohol, Weed, Opiates.

I'm currently taking trazodone PRN for a sleeping disorder due to opiates. IMHO, it's the worst thing you could take. Even at 25-50mg it makes my eyeballs, stomach, and general attitute suck. I can't believe it's actually still being used. I hate it and have stopped.
so...fuck trazodone(Desyryl sp?)
for a temp. aid, I like Halcion. It's heavy and to the point. The half life is only 1.5 hours and I wake up rested and in a good mood. However, this is not an option for me due to my drug abuse and the supply is gone forever...

You could try asking your doc about the heavyiy sedating tetracyclics ADs. I am not sure about interactions with Sonata, but they DO knock you out. They are dependence-forming, but they are not euphoric in any way.
Try asking about drugs like remeron, tolvon or mianserin...your doc will know them.

Stilnox sounds alot like ambien in that they preferentially bind to a subset of the GABA_A receptors. (Man I can't wait till some more of those come out...maybe they can have anxiolytic/euphoric benzos without the damn memory loss).
In my experience anything histamine based (OTC medicines, seroquel, remeron, and the tricyclic anti-depresants) are incredeibly effective if you are sober. However, they will not put you out on stims and I at least seem to very rapidly develop a tolerance to their effects.
While your effects may vary (hell SSRIs will knock me out for days) really your best option is to go with something like ambien or other benzos tho your health insurance won't cover it. Barbituate type drugs like halcion are going to be potentially more powerful but for normal insomnia (or even stim comedowns) you really probably don't need to move beyond benzos.
Anyone know if the antipsychotics like haloperidal will knock you out even if you are all stimmed up. Hell I guess if you are really despserate you could probably anaestatize yourself with ketamine fairly safely...though I doubt this was the point of the question.

I'd say tomazepam is best sleeping pill. Has hardly any other value except getting you to sleep because it makes you so tired. Only lasts around 6 hours so provided you get around 6/7 hours sleep you wake up fine.
GHB works fkn great aswell and won't disrupt your sleeping patterns. Wouldn't encourage doing it everynight though.
Try to avoid alcohol in most cases.
Most benzos generally work well.
Anti-histamines will make you feel drowsy but take too much as already stated you'll feel like you were run over by a train the next day.
Anti-pyschotics work great for some, horrible for others.
I'm sticking with tomazepam or maybe ambien for best sleeping pill.

My top three are:
1. Temazepam(knock your ass out)
2. Ambien(puts you out fast)
3. Xanix(takes longer but better high
I love benzo's...

no ambien isn't a benzo
But fuck- my insurance doesn't cover ambien either, but what the hell- Its only like $80 for 30 pills. To me, at that price its worth a few nights of sleep.
