" Happiness and strength endure only in the absence of hate. To hate alone is the road to disaster. To love is the road to strength. To love in spite of all is the secret of greatness. And may very well be the greatest secret in this universe.”

"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."

"Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them do not. Miss them do not. Attachment leads to jealously. The shadow of greed, that is."

-Yoda

"Approaching a tree we approach a sacred being who can teach
us about love and about endless giving. She is one of millions
of beings who provide our air, our homes, our fuel, our books.
Working with the spirit of the tree can bring us renewed energy,
powerful inspiration, deep communion."

"I do."

"It's time we start smiling,
what else should we do?
With only this short time,
I'm gonna be here with you" - George Harrison, 'Behind That Locked Door"

This verse helps me put things in perspective and relax about the trivial things I tend to fret about. It also helps me to appreciate my friends and family, and the time we share.

What country you from?
Brett: What?
Jules: What ain't no country I ever heard of! They speak English in What?
Brett: What?
Jules: ENGLISH, MOTHERFUCKER! DO-YOU-SPEAK-IT?
Brett: Yes!
Jules: Then you know what I'm saying!
Brett: Yes!
Jules: Describe what Marcellus Wallace looks like!
Brett: What, I-?
Jules: [pointing his gun] Say what again. SAY WHAT AGAIN. I dare you, I double dare you, motherfucker. Say what one more goddamn time.
Brett: He's b-b-black...
Jules: Go on.
Brett: He's bald...
Jules: Does he look like a bitch?
Brett: What?
[Jules shoots Brett in shoulder]
Jules: DOES HE LOOK LIKE A BITCH?
Brett: No!
Jules: Then why you try to fuck him like a bitch, Brett?

History: That thing that we don't learn from and so, are doomed to repeat.

Sean, paraphrasing George Santyana, for the worse, in his dissitation on counselling...

So haribo quotes himself, what A TWAT! (everyone else).

i can't think of a favourite right now, but a most hated? oh damn yeah!

Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get...

obviously a quote from before the era of mass produced chocolate boxes (mmm... chocolate box =D)

btw, anyone else think chocolate is a damn ugly word for something so good? brings the whole 'rose by any name' thing into perspective.

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is impotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Whence then is evil?" - Epicurus

Great quote!

Many Believers have told me that "free will" explains it--but that answer is un-related to the question: "Why does god--who Claims to be "the good shepherd", our "father"--not protect us?" If a father new that one of his kids was going to severely harm another one of his kids, surely he would prevent it if he were omnipotent/omniscient. He would at least cure any injuries from a severe attack that he failed to prevent. God, however, exists only in the imagination--which is the key reason that "he" never protects his kids...

The charge against "god" that he chronically fails to protect us suggests a fatal flaw in the god story--a god who can't/won't bring himself to prevent a vicious assault is, indeed, either impotent or malevolent. Moreover: if god can't bring himself to impede the "free will" of a rapist--then, why are Christians arrogantly involved in crime prevention ("free will prevention")???...

God: Bender, being God isn't easy. If you do too much, people get dependent on you. And if you do nothing, they lose hope. You have to use a light touch, like a safecracker or a pickpocket.
Bender: Or a guy who burns down a bar for the insurance money.
God: Yes, if he makes it look like an electrical thing. If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.

Gotta love Futurama lol.

Glad everyones contributing more, I love reading new quotes.

Here's a new one for ya guys:

"The remarkable thing is that we really love our neighbor as ourselves: we do unto others as we do unto ourselves. We hate others when we hate ourselves. We are tolerant toward others when we tolerate ourselves. We forgive others when we forgive ourselves. We are prone to sacrifice others when we are ready to sacrifice ourselves." -Eric Hoffer

I like thinking and writing quotes... I put them on my wall, so I get to read them sometimes. All my quotes are in french, can't translate them easily, but here's my fav:

'More than drugs, music and dreams, woman is the supreme escape'

Not from me, but I like those:

'Stand tall and shake the heavens' (Xenogears)

'Adversity is a great master' (J.-J. Rousseau)

'Misfortune is good to something' (Voltaire)

"L'enfer, c'est les autres"; "Hell is other people". I particularly like that quote. I don't find it true for myself because I love you all, but I wish I had someone by my side who'd tell me everything was alright and, in particular, stroke my hair as I love that.

Time to hunt for girlfriend material, I suppose. I'll start... tomorrow.

I'm a delusional freak! The only thing I have going for me is that people in the real world don't know me when I meet them. =D =D

Of course I know I'm beautiful. You are too. I'm very high. I would love this state to remain for the rest of my life, but alas, 'tis fleeting! Leaves a sense of 'wanting' afterwards; refill my tank with fuel, i.e. M&V! But that'll have to wait for a while because I'm trying to lay off that stuff--too dangerous, even though I've been using opiates longer than I've been using benzo's, I would rather have it less often, and less of a crutch! %)

"Fill your bowl to the brim and it will spill. Keep sharpening your knife and it will blunt. Chase after money and security and your heart will never unclench. Care about people's approval and you will be their prisoner. Do your work, then step back. The only path to serenity."
- Tao Te Ching
