If a father new that one of his kids was going to severely harm another one of his kids, surely he would prevent it if he were omnipotent/omniscient. He would at least cure any injuries from a severe attack that he failed to prevent. God, however, exists only in the imagination--which is the key reason that "he" never protects his kids...

I find it hard to believe you are so literal about things !
Love is all about freedom to choose and forgiveness whether springing (allegedly from god) or in any human relationship!
So,if you wanted your girlfriend to love you, you would kill any potential rival for her affections ?
thence how would you know it was you she really wanted ?

¿Huh?

I'm talking about protection: why does "god" fail to protect his "children" from a variety of vicious assaults--even though they explicitly BEG him to do so.

I have no idea how you travelled from this idea to: "So,if you wanted your girlfriend to love you, you would kill any potential rival for her affections ?
thence how would you know it was you she really wanted ?"...

A quote i really like in the American movie is when Mark is talking to his grampa and his grampa goes " that 'll be the day" Mark goes "yeah that'll be the day, red or white" and his grampa looks up and thinks really hard and goes "hummmm, red or white"

Somehow this simple quote is very easily forgotten....

"I don’t vote because I believe that if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around, I know. They say if you don’t vote you have no right to complain, but where’s the logic in that? If you vote, and you elect dishonest, incompetent people, and they get into office and screw everything up, then you are responsible for what they have done. YOU caused the problem. YOU voted them in. YOU have no right to complain. I, on the other hand, who did not vote, and who, in fact, did not even leave the house on election day, am in no way responsible for what these people have done and have every right to complain as loud as I want about the mess YOU created that I had nothing to do with. So, I know a little later on this year you’re gonna have another one of those really swell presidential elections that you like so much. You’ll enjoy yourselves; it’ll be a lot of fun. I’m sure that once the election is over your country will improve immediately. As for me, I’ll be home on that day doing essentially the same thing as you, the only difference is: when I get finished masturbating, I’m gonna have a little something to show for it."

"how we deal with pain is what makes us who we are'-....from some song that was on a video game I was playing once, dunno who it was by.

"And that's when I figured out that tears couldn't make somebody who was dead alive again. There's another thing to learn about tears, they can't make somebody who doesn't love you any more love you again. It's the same with prayers. I wonder how much of their lives people waste crying and praying to God. If you ask me, the devil makes more sense than God does. I can at least see why people would want him around. It's good to have somebody to blame for the bad stuff they do. Maybe God's there because people get scared of all the bad stuff they do. They figure that God and the Devil are always playing this game of tug-of-war game with them. And they never know which side they're gonna wind up on. I guess that tug-of-war idea explains how sometimes, even when people try to do something good, it still turns out bad. " - The United states of leland

I just wanted to bump this until I get enough time to add some more of my favorites I've found recently, but I also wanted to say that I love reading this thread when I feel like shit, it really just helps me think more positive.

If you could have one day where none of your actions would matter,
where you could do as you please because you knew that as soon as you woke up
in the morning it would all be erased. What would you do on that day?

Now, think about that one day as being an entire life.

You do as you wish because NOTHING MATTERS when you die. It's erased,
a few traces left in other people's memories, only to be erased when they
too die. That is freedom.

You're not bound by living for another life. You're not bound by living for
another person. You are living solely for yourself. Solely for yourself.
Solely for yourself. For what makes you feel good. That is the maximum freedom
possible in an absurd, meaningless world.

It's exhilarating.
