Young man leaps to death after eating pot-laced cookie

I know two people who have had experiences in which they lost control of themselves after eating (irresponsibly dosed) edibles. Thankfully they stayed at ground level and neither was injured, but for anyone who has seen what high-dose THC can do it's not hard to imagine something like this happening. No mental illness needed.

Having seen high-dose THC's aftermath, his is exactly what I think.

I remember my first experience with cannabis, it was near psychedelic, and that a hit of smoked schwag. My first edible experience was not as strong as my first time smoking, but it was damn powerful for the level of tolerance I had built up to cannabis. I would have completely lost it if I had eaten an edible, much less a professionally prepared one. I always understood (the experience, not his stupidity) the cop who stole bud, and made and ate some edibles with his wife, and ended up phoning the paramedics claiming to have overdosed. I don't think it would have been strong enough to cause me to accidentally harm myself.

What ever china..8)

People with mental instability should take reasonable doses before jumping in so hard..

I agree, but, even with seemingly stable individuals, some just lose their shit with weed. I've seen it myself, not to mention, many reports from others.

Some would say, oh it is just an underlying issue, but, I'd like to beg to differ.

Sure it could be, I know a lot of pro-marijuana advocates like to use that scapegoat, but just as with many drugs, some people are just impacted particularly negatively with unpleasant side effects.

Someone loses their shit with too much alcohol, they can't handle their liquor, someone loses their shit with weed, they're obviously suffering from underlying mental illness.

A little sarcastic humor, I know some may miss that impication^

I mean sure, some may very well have mental health issues, but I just think on the other hand, unfortunately, even the best of us may not react well to it.

^Agreed.

I'm in New York.

This made headlines recently, but check this article out. Don't know if they were stoned, but pretty sick to watch either way.

I'd be scared of fucking that up if stoned. Crazyyyyyy, was just there last year, it's a pretty fucking huge building.

"You never see a positive drug story on the news. They always have the same LSD story. You've all seen it: "Today a young man on acid … thought he could fly … jumped out of a building … what a tragedy!" What a dick. He's an idiot. If he thought he could fly, why didn't he take off from the ground first? Check it out? You don't see geese lined up to catch elevators to fly south; they fly from the fucking ground. He's an idiot. He's dead. Good! We lost a moron? Fucking celebrate. There's one less moron in the world."
- Bill Hicks

I hate to sound like a dick but that is exactly the quote that I thought of. I am all pro harm reduction and don't want anyone to die, but getting high and jumping or falling from a balcony is beyond stupid.
And someone else mentioned the alcohol related deaths. My buddy who died when he hit a tree with a snowmobile was an idiot too. The drunk person I know who passed out with a lit smoke, that didn't end well either. Everyone i know smokes weed in massive doses yet no one ever dies or does anything crazy. Many years ago there was a kid who drowned after taking LSD in Toronto and his death led to a massive acid crackdown. In the time it took to have an inquest into his death over a 100 young people in the province died from alcohol related deaths (none of whom got the same attention). That is what really concerns me, law enforcement and the anti's really exploit these deaths. Like when mushrooms got banned in Holland, it only took a few high profile tourist freak outs to get them banned. I would hate to see BHO or high potency edibles get banned because one person couldn't handle his soft drugs. Soon there will be the horror stories of stoned pot tourists going home from CO and having horrific crashes. And it never matters that it is one in 50 000, or that drunk drivers take out 100 times more innocent people than stoned ones. Each and every horror story is used against us.
I just like the headline the article doesn't add anything new, the mean looking gingerbread man made me chuckle

Pot Cookie Grew Tiny Arms And Pushed College Student Off Balcony

I’m assuming that’s what happened. Why else would the media “blame” a marijuana edible in the falling death of a college student?

Via Christian Science Monitor:

A Congolese exchange student jumped to his death after eating a marijuana cookie that his friend legally purchased in one of Colorado‘s recreational pot shops, authorities said Wednesday.

An autopsy report lists marijuana intoxication as a “significant contributing factor” in the death of 19-year-old Levy Thamba Pongi, a native of the Republic of Congo who fell from a motel balcony on March 11.

Levy was a Wyoming college student who was visiting Denver on spring break. Investigators believe Pongi and his friends came to Colorado to try marijuana, Weiss-Samaras said.

I really like Bill Hicks, but this is a sad story.
I think anyone suggesting celebration over something like this really doesn't grasp the fact that Hicks was a comedian set on stirring the pot and getting people to question their beliefs.
Quoting this when some poor kid dies (for whatever reason - speculating that "he thought he could fly" is foolish) is in poor taste and utterly missing the point IMO.
I don't think it is relevant.

A pussy? Really?

Anyway, I've heard of a few who could handle various psychedelics and marijuana on the other hand, impacted them more negatively then anything.

How does 7 ng even get someone high? 50 ng is the cut off for drug testing. So you would think if you get high once you fail the test and this guy got high enough to where he jumped to his death like a complete jackass.

It only took, what, 80 years or so? Finally Reefer Madness got one right.

Maybe the first time publicized, but incidents where people lose their shit with marijuana is nothing new.

This accident may have been a little extreme, honestly wouldn't doubt things like this have happened before, but anyway yeah, nothing new.

how experienced were they though clock?

The guys who lost their minds after eating edibles were very inexperienced, having been introduced to weed just months before. Thanks for asking me to clarify Never, it's certainly relevant to note that other, more experienced people who ate the same brownies didn't go crazy. Obviously, it was very irresponsible for them to feed those potent edibles to the inexperienced guys and the whole situation could have been avoided if they'd been smarter.

I stand by my post as an example that, under the right conditions, a high dose of oral THC can act as potently as any psychedelic drug on people who are perfectly mentally healthy. Hell, I don't smoke that much so even I will get pretty stupid after a big bong rip.

Of course, Cannabis is safer than alcohol by a wide margin, but sometimes there is a limit to how much you can safely take. I'm afraid that as long as people act as if there weren't, they'll run the risk of making the mistake my friends made or suffering a tragedy as in the OP.
