How many of you who post on this forum have been told that you think too much?

I know that I have been told that a number of times in my 21 years of life and I am sure that I will be told it a million more. I guess I am writing this because that comment really made me mad

It used to be that writers and philosophers were revered in society. They were respected because they could work their mind like a machine, they could discover truth in injustice and reason life in death. Now, thinking, philosophizing is seen as a waste of time. After all, that thought that you are having can not be bought or sold. And, unfortunately, in our current society time is money.

Our drive and ambition is capital. Who has the nicest house, the fastest care and the most chic clothes. Forgive me for asking, but are there not more important things in the world, things that are discovered and emphasized by thinking and dreaming.

Maybe I don't understand how the majority of people can float through life never questioning the greater things and never enjoying the simple truths in front of them. And trust me, no world is better than the one that exists in your mind.

werd!! ideas change the world. ideas is where it's at. unfortunately these days thinking is a privilege reserved for the few with power and influence, and most of them are idiots.

I could not agree with you more!

what amazes me is how school enforces this notion --you have to think, but you can't think too much or too differently or you're being a "smartass" or a "knowitall"
it pisses me off. Tell people what the fuck is up whenever you seem them spreading this wacked out, bitch notion. That's the only way an impact is going to be made.

i think that's a bit of a sweeping statement there.

would u rather be sitting on ur ass all day and just think?

some people dont have the time nor luxury to be thinking so much. it's hard enough putting bread on the table... consider the people with families, children to bring up and put through school.

the daily grind can wear anyone down.

some people are contented with their lot in life.

some people have simple pleasures.

who are we to criticise or judge them?

sometimes, thinking too much can be a sign of an idle life as well, if a person has no pressing needs to worry about, if he/she is provided for by his/her family.

so maybe we think too much... but what's the point of thinking or aspiring if u dont put action to your thoughts/ideals? that's just as bad as not thinking.

i envy the people with simple needs and pleasures, who dont think as much or worry over needless things; who exist in their own world (as long as they're not harming anyone ofcourse)

im sure these people have much better sleep than i do.

(btw, most thinkers, writers, philosophers, are only revered after their demise, after which the world lament its loss, but seldom before)

Too much thinking is often a sign of procrastination. Over analysing a situation is often a sign that you're too scared to take action.

There is such a thing as thinking too much but it is a much greater sin to not think at all.

I used to miss out on a lot of life because of thinking too much.

Now I don't (as much)

As you get older it will become easier to just act, with less thought.

thinking or rearranging your prejudices and thoughts? i think that'd apply towards the latter. productive thinking can be extremely motivating.
