I thought there were a few pressing plants in Melbourne - one old one that was resurrected, one in Brunswick and another one somewhere.
ahah, yes -
you're absolutely right. I remember when they closed down, but didn't realise they'd re-opened. That's excellent!
Because our record has to be
cut, one-by-one, it's going to be a fairly limited first-run - but it's really good to know there is a pressing plant over here, because i hope to do a (larger) second run.
One of the fellers from the brian jonestown massacre was telling me that china has a bourgeoning punk rock scene with a lot of indie labels popping up, and we were sort of planning on researching the options there, when we still planned/expected to pay for it ourselves. Obviously our research didn't get as far as...uh, doing a google search for record pressing plants in Australia, hehe.
We had a Scottish indie punk label that released and distributed a compilation of our various releases (an EP plus a couple of singles) a few years back - but that was on CD, and the label returned to its 25-odd year hiatus a couple of years back, haha.
The band has all been living all across the world for the past year or so anyway - but the timing is pretty damn perfect, because i think we'll all be in Melbourne by early next year.
It's fucking surreal sometimes reading the Melbourne gig guide - so many Perth bands have relocated here, it's like reading Perth street press from the last 5-10 years.
Makes sense - there are actually venues to perform in here (and lofs of em!). I'd much rather be launching this record here, but it's a perth label, and the guy starting it had been kind enough to approach us and pay for the whole thing, so we might do some kind of gig to promote it over here as well.
I'm stoked to finally have one of my albums released on vinyl - it's the only medium i buy music on, and i hate the idea of doing a digital-only release...and CDs are simply an abomimation.
We did put a single out on floppy disc a few years back, just to be smart-arses. One of our crazy fans actually had an old enough computer to play it - and he was shocked we actually fit the mp3 on there - but it was a short and fast little number, so compressing it down to 1 mb wasn't such a big deal.
Obviously it contained a download code for people without the requisite hardware to play a floppy disc...but yeah, it's interesting how it's gone back to being pointless releasing music that is in any format except vinyl.
It's great, really. MP3s are handy, but they're pretty shit. Records are so aesthetically pleasing and tactile. Sexy
