You Right Now.......

Well, how did it go?

I think my amp got busted in the move.
Spent a few hours moving furniture, unboxing all my records, wiring up the stereo...but only got a faint, distorted signal.

Was so disappointing! It's an old hi-fi (was my dad's) but very good quality (Technics) so i'm thinking i might try and find someone to fix it, which hopefully shouldn't be too difficult.

Goddammit, i wanted to listen to the Holy Modal Rounders record i bought last week :(

Technics 1200 turntables too.
Nice. Was lent one of those for a couple of years by a very generous mate when one of my old turntables died.
Have a pretty decent imitation of one these days, they're very nice pieces of equipment.
You can't go back to crappy turntables with plastic tone arms and shit after you've used DJ decks IMO. Just being able to alter settings is so simple but essential. My dad's current turntable is a piece of shit that plays 180 gram vinyl really slow - making modern records and reissues pretty much unplayable.

On topic: jumping through hoops to get the dole. It's somewhat degrading, but it is free money.

Glad i dont have to deal with those cunts these days.

Love my technics 1200's. Had them for 25 years and never had any problems with them.

I thought there were a few pressing plants in Melbourne - one old one that was resurrected, one in Brunswick and another one somewhere.
ahah, yes - you're absolutely right. I remember when they closed down, but didn't realise they'd re-opened. That's excellent!
Because our record has to be cut, one-by-one, it's going to be a fairly limited first-run - but it's really good to know there is a pressing plant over here, because i hope to do a (larger) second run.

One of the fellers from the brian jonestown massacre was telling me that china has a bourgeoning punk rock scene with a lot of indie labels popping up, and we were sort of planning on researching the options there, when we still planned/expected to pay for it ourselves. Obviously our research didn't get as far as...uh, doing a google search for record pressing plants in Australia, hehe.
We had a Scottish indie punk label that released and distributed a compilation of our various releases (an EP plus a couple of singles) a few years back - but that was on CD, and the label returned to its 25-odd year hiatus a couple of years back, haha.
The band has all been living all across the world for the past year or so anyway - but the timing is pretty damn perfect, because i think we'll all be in Melbourne by early next year.

It's fucking surreal sometimes reading the Melbourne gig guide - so many Perth bands have relocated here, it's like reading Perth street press from the last 5-10 years.
Makes sense - there are actually venues to perform in here (and lofs of em!). I'd much rather be launching this record here, but it's a perth label, and the guy starting it had been kind enough to approach us and pay for the whole thing, so we might do some kind of gig to promote it over here as well.

I'm stoked to finally have one of my albums released on vinyl - it's the only medium i buy music on, and i hate the idea of doing a digital-only release...and CDs are simply an abomimation.

We did put a single out on floppy disc a few years back, just to be smart-arses. One of our crazy fans actually had an old enough computer to play it - and he was shocked we actually fit the mp3 on there - but it was a short and fast little number, so compressing it down to 1 mb wasn't such a big deal.
Obviously it contained a download code for people without the requisite hardware to play a floppy disc...but yeah, it's interesting how it's gone back to being pointless releasing music that is in any format except vinyl.

It's great, really. MP3s are handy, but they're pretty shit. Records are so aesthetically pleasing and tactile. Sexy <3

I have not bought a cd in many years. I think the last one i bought was of a Pixies gig at the Hordern where they recorded the gig and had really well packaged cds of the gig for sale immediately after it

I am a bit annoyed how much people charge for records now both 2nd hand and new. I blame hipsters with their cold drip coffee and beards. Knobs

I think it's more a case of the record companies being greedy cunts and upping their margins. Short-sighted fucks will only cause people to buy less because $50+ for some releases is just stupid.

Let me blame the hipsters...they are so annoying. I blame hipsters working for record companies with beards that drink cold drip coffee.

Yeah, that's fair enough, I guess.

Some of the second hand prices of rare stuff sure is expensive but I don't mind cos my collection is my legacy to my children. Sucks when you want something rare, though.
