You Right Now.......

Nice.
I always picture you in one of those "sexy nurse" costumes.

Speaking of which, *ahem* - you still got a trip to melbs on the cards, mister consumer?
I'd like to make a trip up to visit you sometime, newcastle sounds rather nice.
I gotta go back to Perth to play a gig in a couple of weeks though, to launch a record i made that is getting a vinyl release on some new label...which will depletes my funds-for-adventures for the time being (worth it tho)
My nurses uniform is pretty boring tbh. Scrubs just aint that sexy...though the girls still look hot in them.

Melbourne will have to wait i am afraid. Flying to Europe on Jan 20th to hook up with a lovely Norwegian lass i met in Thailand. Maybe when i come back.

I keep thinking its Zephyr with that avatar. Shit is confusing.

Haha, yeah - i keep forgetting i'm impersonating zephyr.

The whole "sexy nurse" thing is funny. Your trip to Europe sounds great though! Get in there, my son <3

Just sitting down to watch a few ep's of 'humans' got a vodka and orange juice with a slice of lemon n ice and a lovely bit of heroin to smoke, wish i had a bit of weed but hey beggars can't be choosers :D

Thanks herby - it's exciting! We've been sitting on this record for a while (and had all left town) but a guy we know is starting a label and really wants us on it - so it worked out amazingly well (and we don't have to self-finance the release for once!)

Excellent news!

I'm conscious of not giving away too much personal info here, but i'll keep you posted about the release, if you're interested, consumer :)

What may intrigue you, as a self-proclaimed vinyl nerd (a man after my own heart!) is that there are no longer any record pressing facilities in Australia, to my knowledge. There was one left, some years back, but as far as i know it shut down.

That being the case, some very ingenious friends back home invested in a record cutter about 10 years back.

So rather than press a run of records, each one is cut, individually - a fairly time-consuming and painstaking process. Like, they have to brush away the dust that comes from cutting into the vinyl as it spins around, as not to get in the way of the mechanism that cuts the groove into the wax.
So each copy we will have will have been made with a great deal of care!

Anyway - back on topic:

Appropriately, i'm just about to set up my stereo in my new house. When i came over here, a move was always on the cards - i knew the folks i moved in with were looking to find a better place, so i didn't fully unpack all my stuff. I never set up my turntable - so i'm pretty excited to be doing so.
I've really missed my record collection - so i'm going to get to it :)

I thought there was a pressing plant in Adelaide for some reason. I do know there is a major shortage of the laquer used to make records. As far as i know there are only two producers in the world. One a US company and the other is an old Japanese dude that makes it in his shed. He apparently makes the best quality but is getting old and has noone to pass on his trade to. When he stops the US mob will have a monopoly. I can see records getting more expensive.

I could not live without my vinyl. I still have the first record i bought when i was about 8 which was Monty Pythons Previous Album. I spent a month entering it all into discogs and i am sitting on a small fortune not that i will ever sell them. Listening to Fugazi atm

Got some out of season rain here today and yesterday.

I have decided that if it's okay for cricket players it's okay for me too and have retreated to my work digs to smoke diesel and charas, with a little JJ Cale on the go.

Yeah, moving across the country, the logistics of how to safely move my record collection was one of my biggest concerns, because likewise - my vinyl is one of the most valuable things i own - have some irreplaceably rare stuff, and i didn't want to run the risk of damaging them or having them warp in transit. I ended up investing in some boxes specially designed for LPs, for peace of mind.

I also brought all of my instruments with me (guitars, gigging amp, 1981 polyphonic analog synth - as well as a whole roadcase full of pedals, percussion instruments like tambourines and djembes, melodians, glockenspiels etc) - some things take half a lifetime to accumulate, and selling then re-buying them would be pointless - not to mention impossible.

But unlike my guitars and stuff, i've not yet tested to see if the records (and hi-fi amp/turntable) made it over here unharmed.

...about to find out :)
