Ever heard these immortal words before ?

I find they are about as useful as a Chocolate Teapot.

Have they ever worked for you , if so please expand .

I've heard it before and to be honest it's never worked, however well intended.

Though at the same time I'm coming to realise that it can be difficult, upsetting and emotionally draining to be around somebody with self-destructive tendencies. Still, in just about every instance it's been counter-productive and has driven the person who's being urged to 'sort their life out' to isolation and further abuse.

It's a tough one. I'd be interested to read about other people's experiences and opinions.

Greatest advice ever because like a switch you can just sort your life in an instant. One flick of the switch is all it takes.

Heard it from my sisters' before but of course they could not add anything constructive rather just point out my initial 'need'. Yeah cheers for that and cheers for bugging our folks about being too old to be back in the family home. My big sis can be a right bitch. One time I was out of work and could only afford a small prezzie worth a fiver for my wee niece but my cousin spent £50 on her. She bitched to our Mum about this and I'm like WTF I'm unemployed Lisa's a fucking bank manager and will she get me a job? Will she fuck.

I have heard these words many many times.

I did quit ketamine use though, so i did 'sort my life out'

nothing i do is physically damaging anymore

But it wasn't cos someone said it .

You just got on n did it yeah ?

Sort your life out is so meaningless as we have so many aspects to it.

You might be sorted financially but fuked up emotionally and so on ....

The only way it works is if you look in the mirror and say it to yourself. I usually spot my own problems and sort them out long before anyone apart from my wife does. I think it's a tendency to obsession. Everything needs to be done repetitively and frequently until it becomes really worn out for me to stop or be satisfied, and then a little bit more.

Pffft, no offence Sam but your use was hardly an epidemic at 500mg a week. Hardly constitutes 'sorting your life out'.

Agreed. If someone turned round to me and said this, I'd probably tell them to fuck off. Has to come from within if it is truely going to mean change.

I think some people get a bit sick of the cycle of having to get off their tits every weekend. It's almost worse than being a daily user because you have 5-6 days of misery.

"Just get over it" is another fantastic one :|

Exactly. Get a grip, chill out, calm yourself down, get over her/him etc. They're all cheap, pointless phrases that people use that usually make you feel worse about yourself. And that's sometimes the unwitting intention I think.

The Only time 'you need to sort yourself out' has made me sort meself out is when I've said it mentally to myself.
Loadsa people mam, dad, brothers, grandparents, mates, av all said it to me or somethin similar over the years, but I couldn't see why I needed to, thought they were just bitchin at me, tryin stop me avin fun.

Anyway, what they really mean is that they want you to stop having such a fun and care free time, and settle into the mundane predictable existence that 90% of the population have to suffer. Including themselves.

I kind of agree and disagree, sometimes we are in denial and don't even realise how bad things have gotten and need someone else to point it out to us that we need to sort things out.

Also, I say to myself most days that I need to sort my life out but don't seem to be doing it successfully :\

I agree about the denial bit, absolutely.

There's a big difference, however, between a friend tactfully informing you there are problems which you might not have acknowledged and the kind of blunt "you're fucked up and you need to do something about it" approach.

My you're on form.

(Applause)

Yeah it drives me mad when people think you should live your life as they do or as society expects. In my case it's nothing to do with drugs but I hate how people keep telling me I need to settle down, get a career, join the real world, stop going travelling etc. FUCK OFF!
