So i'll make the point again. Do we really need another mod? Is shambles getting that lazy?

We've always had 4 mods, for as long as I can remember. Why the need for 5 now??

For as long as you remember, raasy? Your memory must be getting pretty bad. Is it the gin? ;)

EADD has had five mods in very recent history. There's no fixed number of mods; it's up to them to decide whether they need the extra help or not, and obviously right now they do. People have real lives after all. Or so I'm told.

Weren't you complaining about lack of moderator presence fairly recently?

Actually, in the past we have quite commonly had 5 mods... I checked. We might not be as busy all the time but we can be sometimes & we aren't always all active, we have lives too, so having an extra mod will mean there are more of us around at any given time.

You are entitled to your opinion but it isn't an informed one since you are not a member of staff here.

No... Memory is fine.

When Snolly left, they decided to request 2 new moderators. I thought it must have been because Snolly and RoganJosh were leaving. But despite absence, RJ's name wasn't struck off the list so we were left with 5. Before Snolly's departure, we've always had 4 mods. At least in my active years.

Sure it's informed. Shambles and Julie are blatantly slacking off big time lol

Ah well, can't complain. Staff - get what you pay for ;)

One of the reasons Snolly left was because it was understaffed. It must he hard work modding n they need to discuss stuff with other members. If there's five that helps them more if someone's ill or having an off day. Right now, I personally, feel that EADD needs the extra moderator.

I'm not going to comment as to who is, or isn't active, but be aware that just because a member of staff is not posting in the public forum, does not mean they are not partaking in the modisphere. As I said, your opinion is not informed.

Julie does moderate. In fact she 's helped me a few times when I've got over-emotional on here by sending me a PM. I've also seen her edit posts which broke rules n other moderated duties. I think that she is a good moderator.

Not all moderators do the same thing, that's why, apart from that people have lives, it's good to have different mods. They can discuss stuff n bring stuff to the table that others don't.

Julie may not seem as "active" as say Allein n Chatty - but I've seen her moderate EADD numerous times. She's also contributed to the input eg Puzzle Corner.

Wouldn't an invitation to those that the present mods deem 'modable' be a way of trying to capture the type of person required - they can always say no. I would imagine there are already conversations between mods along the lines of ' he/she would make a good 'un '.
I use to mod on another smaller board years ago and thats how we use to do it.....that all: )

errr yeh, but it would hardly be appropriate to do that publicly and even if there were people we might approach that would preclude others from being successful. No one person makes these choices .

i bet you could always use a test like they do to find the new Dalai Lama.

give candidates a few posts to mod. see how they do. pick the next reincarnation.

I think the present way of choosing mods works. I applied for moderator three times (not in EADD) n was obviously rejected but that's all good. I've some issues n no way ready to do anything like that. And the people who make decisions knew that.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the current moderators know what's involved in moderating a sub-forum on Bluelight. We (meaning anyone who has not ever done so ) do not know, we can only assume - and so it is easier for current mods / smods / admins (whoever is involved in those discussions) to judge who they think would be able to cope with it with varying factors.

As much as I can sit here as a normal member, and say "so n so would be an ace mod," I would hate having the pressure of voting for , or against someone, when I am clearly unaware of the total role, having never experienced it myself. So thus, I feel happy knowing that the new mod will be decided by the current team of EADD moderators, whom are intelligent, respectful n sensible. I'm(as a member) more than happy with their capabilities of choosing an ace moderator who will help with the smooth running of EADD.
