yellow jackets, stackers...diet pills..ephedrine

Abra put it nicely...to clarify, I was referring more to physical symptoms when I mentioned ephedrine side effects.
A case of hypertension from ephedrine:
Wettach GE, Falvey SG. A mysterious blood pressure increase in a drilling Naval reservist.
Mil Med. 2002 Jun;167(6):521-3.
And from the same case report's abstract:
Ma huang has been reported to cause hypertension, hepatitis, nephrolithiasis, and sudden death in healthy, normotensive people.
From another study:
E[phedrine] even at low doses and by the nasal route can decrease tiredness in healthy persons; this is accompanied by a substantial increase in blood pressure and orthostatic hypotension exposing individuals in case of intensive physical exercise to cardiovascular risks.
Berlin I, Warot D, Aymard G, Acquaviva E, Legrand M, Labarthe B, Peyron I, Diquet B, Lechat P. Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of single nasal (5 mg and 10 mg) and oral (50 mg) doses of ephedrine in healthy subjects. Eur J Clin Pharmacol. 2001 Sep;57(6-7):447-55.
More studies/case reports:
In fact, ephedrine's effects on the adrenergic system/blood pressure etc is so well known, that the drug is used to treat maternal hypotension during labour/c-section.
If you search medline (a database of medical studies and case reports) for "ephedrine heart attack" you get 15 results, for "methamphetamine heart attck", you get 4 results. If you search for simply "heart ephedrine" -- 480 results; if you search for "heart methamphetamine" -- 96 results.
I think I'll stick to meth.

ephedrine is many MANY times less addictive than meth, especially if your smoking meth.
the high is totally different, eph/caff mixes arent fun for me, but they do keep me up. with meth i can actually have fun with the drugs, but its too damn addictive. fuck tweekin

Another trend you see in the case reports is that many of the people taking ephedrine regularly were only using the reccomended dose (25-50mg). And acute fatalities have been seen with as little as 125mg. Thus, the margin of safety is very small for ephedrine.
Amphetamines on the other hand can potentially cause all of the same toxic effects, but a much higher dose is usually required. For example, there is a report of a guy with intraventricular bleeding after injecting 1,000mg of meth (what was he thinking?). Considering that a normal dose is only 5-10mg, the margin of safety is quite large. Obviously people have died from using less than a gram of meth but fatalities from therapeutic doses are really non-existant.
Here's an interesting thought: Ephedrine Sulfate is available as a prescription parenteral drug for its pressor effects (used for some of the same things as epinephrine or adrenalin). And rxlist says:
"Ephedrine may cause hypertension resulting in intracranial hemorrhage. Ephedrine may induce anginal pain in patients with coronary insufficiency or ischemic heart disease. The drug also may induce potentially fatal arrhythmias in patients with organic heart disease or who are receiving drugs that sensitize the myocardium."

Really, instead of doing ephedrine and stackers, why not find a meth hook up so you could do real drugs?
AFoAF only got euphoria off the glass she would do.. never speed up, only slowed down... but on ephedrine, she gets yanked...
somepeople have different chemestry..

I found a perfect medium with phentermine. Knock it all ya want but it is the most reliable with the least amount of side effects. If keeps me up and going and isn't dirty at all once you get used to them.
Every drug has cause a death in at least one person and each has their own unwanted side effects ... play around for a bit and find what's right for you. One man's trash is another mans... well, ya know...
I was at an Ultraworld party and a friend came up to me feeling good and blurted "man, I just dropped a stacker" yes, i laughed for weeks at that remark by hey, it works for him.
wish I could get off on a stacker. enjoy it while it still feels good.

There should be a 'No OTC High's' rule.

Maybe, but on the other hand, if OTC high Q's are allowed, those in the know can inform the curious individual the risks involved in OTC highs, and prevent harm...you know, harm reduction.

I don't understand how you can say Ephedrine has worse side effects than speed/meth?
There's a reason why Ephredrine is legal and Amphetamines are not. The government and other health agences are not as stupid as many of you think and have done many evaluations of its side effects.

Ephedrine has more peripheral side effects (is that correct?) What I mean is that in doses needed to produce a desired recreational effect, other side effects are greatly increased, such as greatly elevated heart rate and blood pressure, where as with meth, these side effects are not so bothersome. That is probably why ephedrine is still legal (although most likely not for much longer.) Ephedrine abuse is somewhat self limiting, as the negative effects tend to over power the positive ones so you just quit using it. Meth, however, doesn't have all of these self limiting factors, so multi day binges are very easy to get into.
