Yawning a specifically psilocybin side effect?

for me at least psilo, cid, and 2ce make me have orgasmic yawns. once one happens, it's only a matter of time before i want another. i wouldn't doubt the 'brain cooling' idea, plus our cerebrospinal fluid 'breathes' in a slow flow (did you know your skull can flex on certain hinge bones?)... my trip yawns will increase the intensity of the trip, possibly due to the 'stirring' of chemical soup surrounding the brain. or maybe it's all psychosomatic.

psilocybin is more of a receptor slut than some other psychedelics, in particular some phenethylamines...and 5ht activity appears to play a role in mediating yawning. Couple that with reduced stimulation in comparison to other agents (adrenergic agonism, etc.), and yawning makes sense.

I d/k the cause but it def happens to me and others I've been around with the shrooms. Like this past Halloween. We had a bag of shrooms we weren't sure were all that good. We ate them up and about 40 min later we were all yawning. Looked around at each other and suddenly it was all smiles, oh yeah, we're yawning. ... and yes they were damn good.

I get the yawning. They also tend to make my eyes water on the come up for some reason.

Brain activity

Hello everyone. First of all - with psilocybin - it has been shown scientifically that it actually reduces the brain activity and does not amp it. (Do some research on the net if you want more info on that).
That being said - the brain waves are altered. We know that normal consciousness in terms of brain waves operates as Beta Waves - 12 and 30 Hz. When sleeping and using meditation techniques will get you brain in Alpha Waves - (8–12 Hz) , which is normal. Also psilocybin - will take your brain activity in that Alpha state. That's why you feel sleepy. That state is good for spiritual , inner work - and that's how you get to have the visions ( and i prefer the term visions instead of hallucinations). You should note that a good spiritual practitioner like a yogi can get into meditation and have the same effect and visuals. (endogenous DMT is released during profound meditation - and as they say connects you with your inner self). Shamans would say the same thing about visionary plants. So that's with the yawing. Achieving that Alpha State is important to have any visuals at all. You can also get into that state without the mushrooms - but it takes a few years of practice (meditation). Psilocybin facilitates the Alpha state.

Now, about the muscles - twitching, and tension - that's a different process. Some of you might have heard about Kundalini (if not - look it up on wiki). So, the Kundalini sperpent - the vital or sexual energy - when not used for physical sex - can travel up the spine through the chakras (see wiki) up to the top of the head. Now you all heard about the 3rd eye ( which is the 6th chakra - the brow chakra) - so - when this energy reaches that spot it powers it up and you can see with your inner eye. You will ask what happens when it reaches the lower ones and higher ones, whell, you get different feelings and emotions - specific to particular chakras - please look them up on google - and you will find detailed information about them. Alpha brain waves facilitate the rise of this energy. Theta as well.
So if your chakras are not allined and fully funtional - you may have that tension in the body - it is a high energy thing that is going on - and it's like finding a cap and it accumulates. That's why it's good to have some spiritual practice in advance and eat healthy food, do some exercise. Drink at least 2 liters of water a day. Kundalini energy is the fire element in it's nature - you need your body well hydrated before any trip. Other that that - use the plant with responsibility and reverence - with a clear intent and not for fun. This is spiritual work and that deals with higher energies and intelligences and it should be treated with respect, and be used for healing. Thank you for your time.

Peace! <3

well that explains everything, the mushroom mystery is solved !

problem is, that's just your story, it's what you believe, it could be completely different experience for someone else, all the ecg's and mri's in the world don't address the content of the experience.

For me personally the mushroom trip is a ramble through the dark woods of hyperspace with an eccentric old friend, nothing like the description you gave.

I have noticed this too, more so when ive got a monumental trip on the way ( Like when ive had a large dose of shrooms ) and am on the come up, ive even known a mate fall asleep after drinking a cup of mushie brew, to then wake up a couple of hours later tripping his nut off .. That must of been some experiance ! haha .

I havnt been getting the yawns for yrs on shrooms tho as im on methadone now, for H treatment, so that stops me yawning alltogether, which i dont mind as to be honest i cant stand yawning anyway. And yes its very strange how contagious yawning realy is ! i cant understand that at all ..

And i do remember reading in a book of some sort a long time ago that the act of yawning ( when sober obv's ) is to suck a large lungfull of oxygen in, because the brain is tired and wanting to shutdown / go to sleep, so the extra oxygen intake is to stimulate and re awaken the brain. But regarding yawning when tripping i dont have a clue .. I tripped last wed and friday and didnt yawn at all, but like said that will be down to my methadone meds ..

Nice first post centralbpm.

I usually yawn when sedated so this makes sense.

I like it how you can post in old threads here and nobody gets all super grumpy about it :-)
