Yawning a specifically psilocybin side effect?

Hello everybody!
I've been wondering whether yawning during the experience is peculiar to mushrooms only. I've only ever done mushrooms of all serotonergic psychedelics so I've got no clue here. Do people yawn excessively on say, mescaline, DMT, LSD or anything else of that sort? I'm under the impression that's not something one will be expecting with other such substances.

^I believe it is, just I wanted to know if other serotonergic psychedelics can cause yawning the way mushrooms can :-)

There was a yawning question last night by another poster. They had consumed MDMA, and said they could not stop yawning, as well...

I'm pretty sure yawning is sometimes an anxiety related action. Like just physical tension being released. This makes sense based on what you've all said, because MDMA, psilocybin, and 2C-E all cause a bit of tension or anxiety sometimes.

Dude i'm so calm and stress free when I do MDMA or shrooms and I still get the yawning. I believe more factors contribute to this though cause the yawning is not always there or sometimes its worse than others

Thanks for all the replies!
I wondered because I reckoned that in the case it were unique to mushrooms it would allow to tell a mushroom preparation from some other psychedelic substance, but seemingly that's not an option.
Still it'd interesting to know the exact mechanism underlying the issue, like if that's serotonin release, agonism at a specific site or anything else. Might offer some insights...

When I yawn when coming up on mushrooms I get a kind of click sensation in my head along with an apparent ratcheting up in trip intensity. Anyone else get this?

wrong. i dont get any body load from 2c-e whatsoever. to be honest it feels cleaner to my body than lsd. i know its probably just me, but thats the truth.

I don't believe it's anxiety related... There are many theories on yawning but the one I prefer is that yawning is meant for cooling of the brain. [source 1] [source 2] [check "proposed causes"]. The way you breathe when yawning seems designed for it. Especially when the brain needs cooling when you are not involved in any physical activity.
Maybe there is relation to the serotonergic action in that it causes imbalance in the body's thermostat, MDMA is most known for this because rather than causing hyperthermia it allows hyperthermia to happen from other causes because the body's homeostatic abilities are compromised.
If other serotonergic psychoactives cause differences in serotonin levels as well only not as extreme as MDMA's releasing aspect, it could be your thermostat is more subtly affected which is corrected by yawning. Of course different compounds with different effects on serotonin makes for different tendencies to yawn and individual / idiosync. mileage varies as well as always.

What do you think, is this idea on the right track?

I'm also interested to know if anyone thinks if tryptamines produce more yawning because they're based on the serotonin molecule as opposed to PEAs.

Merging with 2 other threads on the subject... I'll put the original question of this thread in the new OP so that people reading this globally will stick to our current direction.

Hmm just a theory based on my experiences. I only mean a physical anxiety btw, I feel totally relaxed on say- MDMA, but the come up produces stimulation that I can feel manifest in yawns and random stretching urges when I'm sitting still. Just me I guess.

Also I just read an article about yawning being related to some neurotransmitters responsible for relaxation and empathy :) So you guys seem to be pretty close on that one.

It can by side effect of neural tension that dont manifest itself as emotion, just yawning.I never had it on any drug, maybe on alcohol but I dont remember

Yawning can be a side effect of anxiety. I had a short episode of it in the past, so let's not discredit it. There are a lot of unfounded theories flying around here of why we tend to yawn on these drugs...

Tomer

Yeah that's what I meant earlier, anxiety/tension is a bit more complicated than being able to "feel tense/anxious".

On SSRI's, it not uncommon to yawn REALLY WEIRDLY; almost orgasmicly (indeed, a very (lucky??) few people do actually orgasm when they yawn on SSRI's). This side effect is noticed in the first weeks of treatment- when ones serotonin levels may in fact briefly fall- such as what may happen when ingestng mushrooms/psychedelics.

Opiate w/d and yawning...?

Still, none of this explains why I'm yawning so much now :D
