yawning

This is the first post of the most recent thread on this before merging, it's from Iskandar :)

Hello everybody!
I've been wondering whether yawning during the experience is peculiar to mushrooms only. I've only ever done mushrooms of all serotonergic psychedelics so I've got no clue here. Do people yawn excessively on say, mescaline, DMT, LSD or anything else of that sort? I'm under the impression that's not something one will be expecting with other such substances.

And then there was this original post by threelibras99:

I searched. but couldn't find anything, so sorry if this has been brought up before.

I've noticed that everytime I trip on shrooms I am CONSTANTLY yawning. Like, it's hard for me to talk straight cause I won't stop yawning. And it's not for the full trip, just certain times, but can last for a while. I can't remember if this happened to me on acid or not, but I was just wondering if this happens to anyone else.

definatly..getting the yawns for me, is my first sign that the mushrooms are starting to take their course.. but have always seemed to fade away (or forgot about?) when i start rise and peek

i get yawns from most tryptamines esp. shrooms.
I heard it was from your brain trying to get more oxygen to it....
although i dont know if that is correct ...anyone have some facts?

hah i've heard of this before, sounds like a common symptom. maybe it is a sign that you need to change the music.

I yawn a lot during the come up of tryptamines (especially psilocybin and 4-aco-mipt), but once through the come up, the yawns stop.

my sources tell me that yawns are an instinctive call of dominance, hence why when one yawns often others do: natural competition.

my sources cited of a lion roaring (stretching of the jaw and tone shift) as being comparable.

so maybe coming onto psychedelics is just releasing your primal instincts.

:)

Yawning helps push out more C02 from your lungs, I find if I start yawning a lot just breathing in deeply stops it

I think your source is on to something.

%)
Mushies do make me yawn on the come up, Ive done other tryptamines but dont recall yawning on them, most of those nights were mostly a blur anyway.

How many people have to fight an urge to yawn after reading this thread? I know I do, heh.

I like to think of those yawns as the Yawns Of Awakening. The come up is like rising from the sleepy state of sober consciousness to the wakefulness that characterizes the mushroom headspace: Clarity of The Day (Wo)Man Rose.
Just look out for those Thorns.=D

Nice! :D

Yawning is very common with mushrooms and other tryptamines, also during the come-up of MDMA (especially that one IME). I'm not sure what's causing them, but I find them very pleasant.

+1 to the releasing of primal instincts theory

Happens always. I don't know why, but it seems to be a part of an enhanced bodily awareness. Breathing, posture and stuff like that tend to become quite important when tripping... it seems natural to yawn at that point. Otoh, I don't get that as much with other psychedelics.

^ Mushrooms aren't as stimulating as most psychedelics are, maybe that has something to do with it

Shrooms do tend to have this sort of a 'dreamy' feel to them don't they? Which is what I associate with the yawning, hard to imagine yourself yawning when your brain if frying off of some potent CNS stimulant isn't it

I did feel my jaw tense, as well as my hands, which were clawned into fists, esoecially as the trip started to launch.

I feel as though yawning on one hand easens breathing and indeed reacts on decreased oxygen intake caused by initial central depression, and on the other hand is a somatic symptom of the transition to another state. The body may view upon tripping as some sort of dream, this dream may be one of less distorted reality...
But I don't really know how I feel about purging and stuff. 2C's and other psychedelics need their adjusting period and the way we're thrown off balance is difficult to decypher if you ask me.

The Tryptamine Yawns

EVer notive on the peak and especially comedown of any tryptamine mushrooms especially you yawn alot. I know this is a function of seratonin but i dont know how it ties in with why you would yawn more with more seretonin or other tryptamines. And I find it especially interesting because yawning is contagiouse like, and i have had yawn fits with friends yawning back and forth on a shroom comedown. Even get the yawns when stimulated on some good MDMA or MDA.

Any one got some logistics on this?

The combination of manipulated serotonin levels, "chain reaction" that occurs with yawning, and a tripped state of mind decreasing ego control.

Something like that.
