Benzos Xanex and alcohol...but not on same day

Hello. I found this forum after I was prescribed Xanex and figured this was the best place to get an answer to my questions. First off, I suffer from severe anxiety and have for over 20 years. Doctors have tried me on many anti-depressants as well as benzos over the years. I never stuck with anything, however I did enjoy beers nightly for a long time. I was also in an auto accident and take 1/2 of a 7.5 mg hydrocodone maybe 2-3 times a week. I was prescribed 1 mg Xanex about six weeks ago and I take half of the Xanex about four days a week. (no more than 1/2 pill once a day). I do not drink the nights I take a xanex. I do enjoy drinking beer on the weekends, so I will not take a xanex, but I have taken 1/2 of a hydrocodone on the drinking days. Is this dangerous since I am not mixing the benzos with alcohol on the same day?

Hope this wasn't too confusing! Any help would be appreciated! There are so many horror stories out there....

Moderate amounts of benzo with SMALL amounts of alcohol is ok, too much of either and you will lose all control and eventually black out. Dont combine benzo with hydrocodone (opiate), this can be deadly, ESPECIALLY if you add alcohol on top of that

Thank you so much for the reply. I always wait 24 hours after the xanex before having a beer or any pain med. Is this long enough in between? Thank you again!

Benz and alcohol call for a black outs. It's not a safe combination even in small dosages, plus if you are on weekend drinking a beer Benz tends to make people short tempered. SWIM has had one experience with this combination at only 1mg of Benz and next day was a blur.
I'm not a doctor or have any medical experience in the field, I'm just giving peace of mind. Plus if you drink on weekends you should be stress free "No need for Benz" drink a cold one and just don't think about it.

Edit:
Taking any Benz and pain combination is not safe ether, uppers with downers tends to mess with blood pressure. It effects everyone differently, but the study shows it's not good combination.

Thank you. I do know they are not safe in combination...I treat the Xanex like an antabuse...if I have taken a Xanex that day at all I refuse to drink. I definitely am not looking to mix the two together at the same time. I only take the Xanex when I just can't handle my anxiety anymore. Last week for example, I had a half of a Xanex Thursday afternoon around 2:00. Then had a few beers Friday night starting about 5:00....so over 24 hours in between. Is that still black-out territory? I definitely do not want to have a blackout!

Thank you for the links. I have read through them all. Very scary stuff. Very weird though....my same doctor prescribes me the Xanex, the hydrocodone and she knows I like a few Coors Lights on the weekends. Oh, and she also prescribes my Ambien (5 mg a night/half a pill) and Lisinopril (for high blood pressure). Up until May of this year I was taking one 7.5 hydrocodone a day. Quit taking any at all for a few months. Started taking about 10 mg of the hydro total A WEEK around July (1/2 of a 7.5 mg at a time only and is typically only on Friday and Saturday nights so usually less than 10 mg total a week. As said earlier, I would never take the benzo and the opiate the same day. And I only take .5 mg Xanex maybe 3 or 4 days a week.....and have not taken more than the .5 in one day at all. I do not want to do anything dangerous though. I guess I was thinking since everything was such small doses and the pills are always at least 24 hours apart (the Xanax and Hydro), I thought the other would be out of my system by then. I guess I was thinking the same with the beer....always over 24 hours after taking the small dose Xanax. Guess I need to speak to my doctor about another way to either relieve my anxiety or help with my back pain.

Thank you again for all of the information. Very glad I asked since I was thinking I was not doing something that could make me stop breathing!

As I said it before for me not safe combination, but I can't say I completely disagree about the combination of medication that you are on, your doctor knows better. I seen you mentioned Ambien, that's some sleepy stuff. I was prescribed to it, but only in 2mg as needed. Once I took two at the same time just because of insomnia and let me tell you what. Forget sleeping it's was a light show."Propably not good at all" never took it since then.

Opiates stays in your system 3-5 days, depends on dosage. So a beer 24hr after taking I would say be OK,
Xanex stays in your system 7-10 days
Those days numbers are based on single dose usage.
I found this while reading up on some of stuff

The length of time any drug stays in your system will vary. In large part, it depends on your physiological makeup (e.g., your physical height, weight, your amount of body fat, your age, current state of health, whether or not you exercise mildly-aggressively-or at all). Whether or not you are undergoing any degree of stress (i.e., your "state of mind") at the time you ingest drugs can play a part as well.Still other considerations include your "frequency" of use (1x per day? 3-5x per day?), the "quantity" of drug you used each time, and the "length of time" (days? weeks? months?) of your consistent drug-use prior to your drug test. Even the quality ("potency") of the drug you ingest determines "how long" the drug is detectable in your system.

I would def consider bringing it up to your doc attention. It looks like you have pretty cool one and wants to help, just don't make it sound like its ruing your life, because they might take you off everything and than you are in for a ride.

Might not be Dangerous combination, but everyone reacts differently to anything. 3.5mg of hydr is small dose so it might not have effect, but a person with blood pressure meds or other things like blood thinners might react different. Age play a part, weight, mental stability.etc
And yes Xanex and alcohol is "BLACK OUT TIME"
Just my opinion from doing excessive research on recreational use of medication.
