I've been taking xanax for a few years,Before that i was on Valium now my Dr. Is giving me trouble giving me my daily dose of 4.5 mg. When i was taking the Valium i was on 50mg a day.Ive always had a high tolerance for meds of this nature.Im not a teenager im 48 yrs old.Anyone have any recamandations?What should i tell the Doc? I have pantic attacks with nerve problems.

So mabey i should ask to be put back on Valium again. I understand Xanax is the benzo that is the most abused in the U.S and short term use in fact the doc said Xanax is used for a short term.Mabey the Valium would be better.Im very confussed!

I'd prefer 50mg of valium, it lasts longer, i guess it depends on your anxiety though. All benzos are supposed to be prescribed short term. Valium kicks in pretty fast and lasts a long time so that would be my choice. 50mg is a lot of valium, I take 5mg per day and my Dr. still wants me to quit completely. I guess your tolerance is probably pretty high after a few years, not sure why your Dr would give you a hard time all of a sudden, he must know that tolerance is part of it and he can't reduce your dose without causing issues.

from my experience, the benzoes with longer half lifes and shallower effect curves were much more beneficial. i hate having to continually take more pills as is the case with alprazolam (xanax). id stick with valium or give klonopin a try.

but if you have nerve problems, you should ask for Lyrica (pregabalin). i personally have used it for GAD and SAD (generalized and social anxiety disorders) and it was amazing for me. almost as good as a bezno+amps combo for SAD, and if you are having nerve problems, it also is an effective treatment for fibromyalgia (nerve pain). it feels similar to xanax for me, and lyrica is the best potentiator hands down, with alcohol coming in second, but i might be biased because alcohol isn't really my "thing" unless i drink with others. if benzos help with your anxiety, than i would bet pregabalin would too.
