Xanax SR question

I have been scripted for 0.5MG XanaxSR for insomnia/anxiety.

My question is, if I take 0.5MG, then how long will the effects kick in compared to the regular Xanax?
In other words, if I do have an attack coming on, and If I take one tablet, then how long I have to wait until the relief kicks in?
I know that the regular Xanax kicks in much faster, but how much longer do the SR ones kick in?

The Dr said to me, that he made the switch to these because the SR is not at all addictive compared to the regular Xanax that he had me on before.
He said that there is no way I can get addicted to these.

Other question, If I do a search for Xanax SR, it comes up with XR instead. Are the SR the same as XR?
 
You definitely can get addicted to those, your doctor is a liar. They are less abusable than regular xanax but still equally physically addictive. The SR and XR are probably slightly different from each other but I am not completely sure. The brand usually makes a difference in how fast or slow they release.

You should take one before you have an attack to make sure they kick in quick enough.

Its actually SR (Sustained Release).

So If I take one tablet being 0.5MG, then how long would this kick in in case I do need to take it?

Wow that is some bullshit. Your doctor may be a sociopath. If you're on these a while and this doctor tells you to quit taking them without a taper because they're not addictive, don't believe that either. They're not as recreational (if at all) but they're just as addictive.

From my own experiences XR aren't really for taking when you get panic attacks, they're more something you take at regular intervals every day. I don't know if SR is that much different since I've never heard of it. When I was on the XR it kicked in pretty fast, I'd be falling asleep at the wheel ten minutes after I took it, but it was probably at least partly due to it building up in my system from taking it every day.
 
First and foremost I echo what both falsifiedhypothesi and Doldrugs have said.

Your doctor is being incredibly negligent in the absolute bullshit they've told you. I honestly cannot stress how much bullshit your doctor has fed you. That's so disgustingly negligent, it's doctors like that which cause patients to get hooked on Xanax and other similar substances, and also give Xanax such a bad stigma. No matter its form, Xanax remains an incredibly addictive substance. If you could produce a non-addictive version of Xanax, or any other Benzodiazepine for that matter, you'd be a billionaire.

XR = Extended Release, SR = Sustained Release, the terms mean the same and are used interchangeably - as opposed to IR = Immediate Release.

Xanax SR/XR doesn't have as much potential for abuse as Xanax IR, because in the XR/SR, the drug is steadily released over ~12 hours as opposed to all being released immediately. Though it certainly does have some potential because you can just take a bigger dose of it. Most drug abusers prefer a quick and hard hit which is why they go for Xanax IR. Though those who are taking Xanax therapeutically for General Anxiety Disorder, for example, may benefit from a sustained release of Xanax over their entire day, as opposed to hard hits now and then.

Thus Xanax IR may be better for panic attacks, whilst Xanax XR/SR may be better for Generalised Anxiety Disorder.

No matter whether Xanax is IR/SR/XR it will still kick in, in approximately ~30 minutes. You just have to keep in mind that it wont feel so potent, because that 0.5mg will not all be released immediately, but over the period of ~12 hours so you may not feel it.
 
Or, maybe I must of misunderstood. Maybe he really meant that it was less addictive rather than not being addictive at all...Well, who knows...

So does the "SR" really also means "XR"

Yeahuh. SR/XR = same thing. Some of the meds I've had in the past say XR (Venlafaxine XR, Morphine XR) and some say SR (Quetiapine SR, Oxycodone SR).

Different manufactures will use a different term :)

I hope your insomia/anxiety eases up buddy.
 
And the dr gave me these XR ones especially for social phobia.
As for acute panic attacks, I still have a bit left of the regular Xanax.
 
So if I take 0.5mg of the Xanax XR or SR, on an empty stomach, then how many minutes will they kick in?
 
nobody can really tell you, find out for yourself. just take one on an empty stomach and find out. Sure you will be wasting one but at least you will have a definitive answer.
