Xanax & night hallucinations

I was prescribed xanax before (.25) and was to help w my vivid/lucid dreams... They've upped me to 1-2mg a night (I been off them a couple years) and I don't sleep anything like I did on the lowest dose. Now my lucid vivid dreaming seems to give me hallucinations at night as well (not sleep paralysis, I deal w that rarely and know the difference). What in the world could be causing it since it's not supposed to be a side effect like that?

Thanks :)

Do you happen to be taking any antihistamines, such as diphenhydramine or montelukast? These types of drugs often lead to very vivid, and, in my opinion, strange dreams. Especially after heavy doses of diphenhydramine, I have intense dreams and, if I do wake up, have trouble distinguishing hallucination from reality. Going to sleep on alprazolam often leaves me dreamless as if I simply knocked out. An alternative theory would be that you are simply very inebriated from Xanax (you might be sensitive, I for one am not), which would give you hallucinations akin to drunkenness. Best of luck to you friend.
