Benzos Xanax... keeping me awake?

Twice in the past week i've taken a responsible dose (0.5mg on one occasion, 0.25 on another) of Xanax close to bed. In the latter case, the primary purpose was to help me sleep.

Both of those nights, i've had trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep, in one case to a severe extent.

Has anyone else had similar experiences or heard of similar experiences? I have not had that problem taking other benzos before bed, but xanax has done this to me twice recently...

I use benzos only occasionally (the twice in one week was very unusual for me, I normally average taking a low dose maybe 2-3x per month), and hence should have no tolerance.

Is xanax particularly non-sedating? (it didn't seem like that the times i've taken it while awake, for sure, but I havn't taken it that many times)

Minutes ago I took 0,5g for only the second time but the first time it helped immensely with getting to sleep. One odd thing was if I closed my eyes and started to drift I could vividly hear people from work talking to me... otherwise I slept like a baby and woke up very stress-free as if the alpraz was still going.

The first time I took it, I had 0,5g which made my eyes heavy but I could easily stay awake. The next 0,5g two hours later was what got me into bed.

Good luck! Try again? Try more? :\

I do find that if i take some xanax it kind of keeps me awake. Not in any normal way like a stimulant, but it is sort of stimulating in the sense that its enjoyable and I like just lingering in that zany cloud. If I want to fall asleep it does help me immensly, and I sleep like a baby, but it doesn't knock me out or make me nod like opiates. I take xanax a few times a week, usually 1mg, and the other night I took 3, my friend called me at 1 am, when I'd usually be asleep but I either woke up, or wasn't asleep, I guess I don't really remember:\

In my experience, I've never found benzos to have much effect over sleep at all when you're dealing with low doses such as this. And it's certainly not worth taking a higher dose to induce sleep, there are much more effective medicines for that.

My best suggestion would just be to try 50mg of diphenhydramine. Works wonders for helping with sleep, at least in my case.

a little might not be enough try 1-2mg, everyone is different and what works for some might not work for you. xanax is a strong sedative/tranquilizer, but during those panic/anxiety attacks your brain is too pumped up to give in to low doses.
