Xanax is a benzo for treating anxiety and its job is to sedate and induce relaxation.
I get that feeling, but at the same time, it does provide me with some energy and productiveness and makes me concentrate better pretty much the same way who drink coffee to get that alertness feeling going.

But why is this?

Now, of course, later in the day, I do get tired and sleepy and take cat naps. But the first onset of Xanax's effects do make me more alert and productive.

So yeah, as the subject line says, its like my coffee as it perks me up most of time and at the same time, I do feel relaxed.
Its hard to explain this.

Do anyone of you who are on Xanax or any other benzos do the same for you to as well?

And the funny part of this, is that whenever I drink alcohol, which in fact has almost the same effects like benzos, do NOT give me that productiveness or energy the same way...

It is called a paradoxical reaction and although I've never noticed any energetic feeling from benzos, they have never helped me sleep as the loss of inhibitions and increased sense of calm often makes me more talkative and more active in a.. slow-motion kind of way..

Alcohol is a CNS depressant, but after a few drinks, people often become more talkative, active etc. Even zolpidem (Ambien), a sleeping tablet, is known to bring out creativity in people.. People have a pill before bed and then start re-arranging their room or have an idea for an art project and start painting.. there was even a site dedicated to people's Ambien artworks, so these paradoxical reactions musn't be too uncommon.

There is something about zopiclone, another sleeping pill, that has me making music on my computer, I don't even have to think about. I take the tablet - 10 minutes later, I'll be sitting there making beats..

anxiety disorders can fog your mind. a benzo in the morning starts my day off with a bang as well. too bad it’s not sustainable like coffee.
if we weren't judged so much in society and 'life' just to be clear i.e. for it's side effects maybe it really wouldn't be quite so bad. i would feel more comfortble with that.

i never really did like coffee. it always had too much acid in it.

lol.

Anxiety relief can easily have this effect if you're stressed, i've encountered a similar reaction a few times, it mostly has to do with being relieved of stress which'll make anyone feel better

Xanax does this to me as well; it's called a paradoxical reaction. I struggle to sleep off it, and I get very chatty ,energetic and productive.

I don't buy the anxiety is cured so your all go argument at all. This is clearly, to me, a very pronounced effect not caused by any other/drug, and not in 99% of others I meet, and more likely a physical imbalance/difference of some sorts.

OP - do you have ADHD? I've always wondered since being diagnosed if it was related to inattentive type ADHD, which I found out I had two years ago.

Guys this isn't really Harm Reduction. This is more of a vague curiosity and/or someone discovering that their anxiety is cured by Benzodiazepines and being surprised by the fact, Sorry, but Ive been gone for a bit and we need to keep things dedicated to helping people who might be in danger.
