I use Valium right now cause I got on Kpins when I first had Depersonalization, i regret it now cause i realise i didnt need it and its hard to get off it, ive been on it for a year but ive managed to go down in doses and im trying to go down and get off completely but its hard.

My question is.. if I take xanax that I buy at night to sleep, will it effect my anxiety levels during the day? If so i guess this is the last time I will buy xanax for sleeping.

I know if i take xanax for sleeping and going down on my dose to try to get off is basically not gonna happen, but i like them when I sleep for some reason, just puts me out quickly.

Also, my doctor is a fuck-ass and he tapers me so quickly my anxiety levels are a lot higher than they should be so Im switch doctors and hopefully the new doctor will be able to get me a good taper plan and do it VERY slowly... this doctor tried bring me from 17mg of valium to 5 in 2 months!

imo you should be prescribed/suggest zolpidem or zopiclone for sleep and continue to taper with valium

I never tried ambien but i've been prescribed two different things for sleeping and they didnt really work. they were for sleeping but an anti-depressant as-well. and i wouldnt want ambien cause im not a 'tripper' i dont really like hallucinating and seeing things. and it could bug me out if i didnt fall asleep and i saw things, cause with my depersonalization already.. me seeing things would just make me feel worse

To answer your question I don't think taking xanax to sleep will help with daytime anxiety. It might actually make it worse with rebound anxiety because of its relatively short half life.

I was scripted xanax for sleep for awhile and it did certainly help me get to sleep faster but it wasn't a very restful sleep and didn't help with anxiety after it wore off.

Xanax doesn't give you the proper restful REM sleep people require. As to having anxiety during the day, Xanax is fast acting and doesn't work for very long. It's only noticeably active for about four hours. It's more for sudden panic attacks that need a fast acting remedy, CandS, I'm surprised you were scripted them for sleep.

Sleep aids such as Sonata and Lunesta will not make you hallucinate as Ambien has a potential to. But with any drug used for sleep, they should not be used as a long term solution as they can be habit forming and their efficacy can dwindle. They are most effective when taken now and then.

In the end, it's best to get sleep the natural way, avoiding exercise and caffeine before bed, tea helps some people, reading, or playing video games until you get sufficiently tired. Make sure the last two activities are done outside of bed, so that you don't associate your bed with any activity except for sleep. If you can't fall asleep within 20-30 minutes, do something else, as you will find yourself getting agitated, negating your ability to fall asleep.

So, my advice, Z drugs in the short term, request something besides ambien, but ultimately try and find a way to acquire sleep in a natural manner. You will get better, more restful sleep in the end.

Good luck in catching those Z's!

hear, hear anterrabae,
fucking with REM will cause the most profound, horrible mental problems that most will ever encounter. i am talking suicide and if that is a good thing in your opinion, well then gobble benzos and z drugs all the more.

however be prepared to bare your soul to a trusted one or a well recommended head shrinker as your mind will be so fucked that subjective thought is all that you will be capable of.

the superior among us dumbed down monkeys lives life without tinkering chemically , wish i ranked among 'em.

The Z drugs are not what I would recommend, as there is an increased risk of developing cancer.

Temazepam doesn't interrupt REM sleep.

I was only referring to Xanax. I've heard you say a lot of good things about Temazepam. My curiosity is piqued.:)

Can I ask about your depersonalisation? What exactly does it consist in? I have always had something that I thought was 'depersonalisation' but I never thought it could be legitimately medicated. It happens when I get intensely stressed or sometimes for no reason at all; my vision goes all blurry and tunnel-like and I feel like I'm in a video game. It's inconvenient and sometimes distressing/incapacitating but not exactly dangerous or destructive.

Also, Xanax is - in Australia at least - one of the most addictive benzos and people seem to have particular trouble with it. I know that temazepam is supposedly the most euphoric and that rohypnol is fucken nice too but several of my shrinks have told me that Xanax is unusually destructive and addictive and some of them have even told me about colleagues or kids they studied with who ran into collossal fucking issues with it. It should not be used for sleep at any rate, because - as someone else said - its duration of action is just too short.

That are periods where I'll use low doses of xanax to help fall asleep at night, although I can't really say whether or not it has an effect on the quality of sleep or how rested I felt in the morning. But any substance that disrupts natural sleep patterns (i.e. REM) is not optimal in the long-term.

I did find it better then clonazepam which can leave me groggy in the morning due to it's longer lasting effects.

That's just my experience. I wouldn't really recommend benzos as a solution for sleep problems.

Keep in mind that taking small amounts of Xanax short term to relieve anxiety so you can fall asleep can be helpful in restoring normal sleep patterns. Taking enough to knock you out or make you really tired doesn't help at all in the longterm.

As quick as tolerance builds with daily use, its very easy to fall into a pattern of doing the latter. Thats when it started to become an issue for me.

xanax and klonopin work very well for me, but i'm an insomniac and seraquil knocks me out. have you tried that?

i'm not sure of my source it was in a couple books i read and i too feel refreshed after taking temazepam but i also get that feeling from xanax as well
