Xanax for flying

I have an appt with my doctor next week to ask for a one time prescription for Xanax. I'm taking a flight next month and gave a nasty fear of flying. I'd line to take them as prescribed however my fear is pretty intense and I think I need to be more subdued. Advice on how to use Xanax for fear of flying?

We do not assist in getting drugs from doctors for any reason. I will let you know how my mom did it, she went to her PCP as an adult and said "we are flying from here to there and i need something to keep me calm for the flight" and she got 4 0.5mg xanax.

Having been notified of the error allow me to answer a bit. If you need to figure out what dose to take because of its good oral BA and fast method of action you should be fine with taking 1 0.25mg xanax every 15 minutes until you discover what dose makes you calm. As everyone is different the only way to find whats best is to titrate up from 0 so take 0.25mg every 15-30 minutes until you feel calm and dont go over 1mg as that is a higher dose for someone with no tolerance.

Honestly I dont think that is too likely. I think once you take the initial dose and relax in the beginning you will most likely be fine for the duration. I do not need xanax for stress so I may not be the best source but I think fear is a little different then say like opiate withdrawal where it comes once you get to a specific blood amount. I really think as long as you are ok for take off and keep one emergency pill with you it will be fine. The comfort of having the pill with you may be enough to serve as a safety blanket.

I have a niece who was completely benzo naive and took .25 Xanax for fear of flying and she ended up blacking out and acting very silly doing out of character stuff that you normally hear associated with an Ambien trip. Not saying this is going to happen to you but do be careful. Some people are extremely sensitive to meds in general and I wouldn't want to see you in a similar situation. Probably mostly hinges on whether you've had a benzo before. Maybe even start out with half of a .25 if you are completely benzo naive and go from there.

If you don't have a tolerance, .5mg should probably do the trick. Like others have suggested, I wouldn't exceed 1mg.

Haven't been there done that so to speak but if your talking a long haul then Valium may be better as it is longer acting. Not saying Xanax wouldn't work, you just might have to redose as it is a short acting benzo.
