Xanax doesn't kick in rapidly for me

I keep reading that xanax has an extremely rapid onset and that the effects are felt within 15-30 minutes after oral ingestion. In my experience, this is not true. I only start feeling the effects after an hour or two.

If you're looking to get a faster onset, could try doing it sublingual (holding it under your tongue)

If you are taking a very small dose, or if you have a tolerance, you wont feel the "rush" of relief and relaxation, which may lead you to believe isnt affecting you quickly.

Thats what I'd been doing. I hold it under my tonge and let is dissolve in the saliva, then I hold the saliva in my mouth for as long as possible. I end up swallowing the majority of it because I don't have the patience to hold it there that long though. How long do you all hold things under the tongue when going the sublingual route?

I'm new to benzos, I have only done them a handful of times in my life and I am prescribed 1mg xanax per day. I took 1mg approximately an hour ago and I'm only starting to feel good now. I am withdrawing from phenibut though so that could have something to do with the slow onset. I am gauging the onset by the time it takes for my phenibut withdrawal symptoms (which is just some aggitation and anxiety) to completely subside. Now I feel great but about 10 minutes ago I wasn't feeling too good.

if i take it on an empty stomach it takes about 30 45min to kick in
Thats probably the key. I bet they have higher bioavailability on an empty stomach too.

If you can stand the taste, that is. :|
Xanax tastes pleasant compared to some of the substances I'm used to. Phenibut is by far the worst thing I have ever tasted. Runner ups would be DHC continus and co-codamol CWE solution. I think its actually the paracetamol that makes co-codamol CWE taste so bad. I've tasted USP grade paracetamol and it had a similar taste. I've tried CWE on tablets containing ibuprofen and they don't taste bad at all.

Its been about 2 hours now and I feel the full effects. I'm pretty sedated now. 1mg at once was probably too much. I make that mistake a lot, I'm feeling bad so I assume that I'll need a lot of the benzo to remedy the symptoms but in reality a small dose is enough.

Your metabolism might be a bit slow. I usually start feeling the effect of alprazolam in about 15 minutes and full effects in an hour or so. After that it gradually declines. Maybe you should try .25 or .5mg and see how you feel on that after 2 hours.

Alprazolam (Xanax) takes about 30-60 minutes to kick in. It really doesn't kick in as fast as some say it does. At least never in my experiences. It has always taken more than 30 minutes for me to feel the effects, usually about 35-40 minutes. It was the same when I first started on alprazolam 5 years ago and it's the same today. I find a bunch of benzos kick in faster - among the ones we have in the US, I feel diazepam, temazepam, triazolam, and flurazepam kick in faster.
