Hi, I have a pretty strong tolerance to benzos. I've been taking Xanax for 19 years. I've tried others, but find this to be most useful for my anxiety. Recently, I was prescribed Valium to stop tremors of my extremities. And of course, my doctor rightly told me to please not mix them with the Xanax.

I took 35 mg one night and was surprised to see how long it took for my anxiety to go away, which I suppose is normal considering my benzo dependence. It did stop my tremors. I then went back to my Xanax.

About a week later, I took 35 mgs of Valium, slept horribly with nightmares and actually had increased anxiety. I decided that I don't care for the Valium at all. Maybe I took too many milligrams, but, I just don't want to take it at all.

The next night, wanting to just finally go back to my Xanax and never look back to the Valium, I read online warnings against it. However, I took my regular Xanax dose (no Valium). I wasn't expecting anything since it was 24 hours after the Valium, but WOW, I have never felt so cool, calm and collected in my entire life. I was just digging it and could go with the flow with just about anything. Now, of course, I want to feel that again. I was wondering if maybe I take a smaller dose of Valium this evening and then tomorrow evening take my regular Xanax again, to see if that feeling returns. Or maybe a small dose of Valium and a small dose of Xanax together? I know, always trying to get that first high back. Classic.

I wondered if anyone had ever combined the two or had taken it 24 hours apart and had a reaction to it, or know of anyone who had a reaction to it, good or bad. But please, only responses that pertain to just Valium and Xanax combo. Cause it really sucks to be anxious already & you go to look at someone's reply hoping to get help and it just says "I don't know". Or, a different scenario/drug altogether. Bummer! Thank in you guys in advance!😉

Valium has several active metabolites that stay in your system for a very long time after (days) and has a different and imo more pleasant high the next day rather than the day of dosing. The high the day of dosing is more disinhibition and sedation. The day after is a smooth clean energy and pep in your step feeling.

Also 10 mg valium is equivalent to 0.5 mg Xanax.

Do you maybe just not have enough Valium when you took it instead of the Xanax and maybe that’s why you felt bad (you were basically withdrawing?)

I don’t see what the problem would be mixing them as long as your mower the doses accordingly. Your doctor sounds kinda clueless is he a specialist?

Oddly enough yesterday was the first day I took a xanax and valium in the same day. Actually this week is the first time I even took a benzo for two days in a row in a few years. Wed I took 2 mg of lorazepam. Thurs had one of the most stressful days I have had in years. I took .5 alprazolam. Hit hard because of the stress. 8 hours later 5 mgs of diazepam, which also hit. Today I feel better. But surprised at how hard those small amounts hit.

Both made me calm and sleepy. No bad side effects. But honestly others have more experience. I just thought it was odd there was a post on the two drugs. They also both felt similar to me. Both hit within 20 minutes too. I actually had euphoria only because the I could have thrown up I was so stressed yesterday. They worked and I calmed and slept.

I would try again OP. I am not one to have too much benzo experience to comment but did this yesterday. I can count one hand the times I mixed or even did them two days in a row. I mean 5 mgs of diazepam totally calms me.

Makes me wonder how many metabolites even 5 mg of diazepam can leave as I feel calm again this morning and will not need a redose, hopefully for weeks.

From my limited experience. .5 alprazolam feels like 10 mgs of diazepam. 2 mg of lorazepam felt like 15 mgs of diazepam.

If the doc realizes that the tremors are due to being Rx'd alprazolam for 19yrs again, knows that the max dose of diazepam should ideally prevent almost anyone from "needing" Xanax in a true panic attack, i assume not wanting OP to take them together is because Dr knows combining the two will lead to even greater tolerance thus physical dependence

here in the US valiums rare anymore period, but I have only ever heard of clonazepam and alprazolam/lorazepam prescribed together in rare instances, alpraz/lorazepam in small amounts PRN and clonazepam as the daily med

0.5-1mg alprazolam = 10mg diazepam

Diazepams lengthy duration/afterglow is impressive. Japan in particular has seemingly started treated anxiety/insomnia with longer benzos than diazepam, so that a couple weeks treatment will linger in ones system's for months like librium. Mexazolam (main metabolite delorazepam and then lorazepam), Rilmazafone, Flutazolam and Flutoprazepam (both have the main active metabolite norflurazepam)

Alprazolam (Xanax) is the most abused benzodiazepine in the US. Why? Because compared to Lorazepam (in a medical journal study) and other Benzo’s, Alprazolam cause the release/increase of Dopamine in the brains reward centre, and due to its Triazolo ring it appears to possess antidepressant properties

So Xanax is a rapid acting anxiolytic & antidepressant, which also causes a significant increase in dopamine in the CNS. Oxycodone, Xanax, and Ritalin (Methylphenidate) would be the ultimate euphoric oral speedball

Diazepam is also a super effective anxiolytic with robust muscle relaxant properties

Valium (Diazepam) & Xanax (Alprazolam) are the two most highly desirable benzodiazepines, often taken together.

Example Valium 20-30mg + Xanax 1mg for a 200 lbs plus adult (alone or better, added to take the edge off or make more pleasant a moderate amphetamine dose, Ritalin 20mg IR / Dexedrine 10mg IR / Adderall 10mg IR) add an Oxy-IR 5mg and it would be the most effective mood-boosting euphoric pro-social medicine to take before a large social gathering

….and yes, Diazepam has 3 active metabolites 200h half life with long term daily use as accumulation occurs of these long lasting metabolites

Alprazolam is also rapid acting like Diazepam but is rapidly cleared and has no active metabolites, so it hits fast and is rapidly metabolized & clearance from your system in your body

I'd try again OP. Take the valium in the evening, and then the next evening take the Xanax. As others have said in this thread, valium has long-acring metabolites that are probably interacting with the Xanax.

That is weird you got panic attacks and insomnia from the valium though. Those sound like symptoms of benzo withdrawal, but you were still feeling the effects of the valium, right?

alpraz does have a couple active metabolites

diazepam has shown to have a significant antidepressant effect as well.

the sort of panic attack one can get on a benzo. as for the insomnia, valium is such a strong anticonvulsant and alpraz so weak that the tremors and physical effects of alpraz dependence being wiped away could have caused a strong change in your sleep pattern, all the stages, and nightmares arent uncommon. plus while maybe equivalent per dose, alpraz does more damage/downregulation and switching to the arguable best taper benzo might not be super painless. Cakewalk compared to without it, im sure.

for the most part, i have a hard time falling asleep if i feel much effect still active after the 6-12hr window, including (if not especially) heavy hypnotics like flubrotizolam.
