Hi everyone,
I have a prescription for Alprazolam (Xanax) from June 22, 2004 and Temazepam (Restoril) from December 1, 2004.
I was wondering if they are safe to take, having been prescribed nearly 10 years ago. They were kept in their respective prescription bottles in a dry, dark cabinet at home. I know they probably lost much of their potency but would it be dangerous at all?

The bottle for Xanax says "Discard After: 12/04" and for Temazepam "Discard After: 1/2006"
Neither of them are moldy and smell fine.

Thanks all!

Do you really want to take pills that are 10 years old? I wouldn't.. but I don't think it's dangerous. I took Xanax that had been expired for a year and barely felt them so it mainly just loses it's effect.

Can't say about benzos specifically, but I've taken hydrocodone that was 11 years old and didn't notice a major loss in potency.

I found a bottle of codeine pills that was 35 years old! Just codeine back then, nothing added. They still worked great. Unfortunately my junkie roommate stole the bottle after I'd only had a few. :(
