Xanax and Hydrocodone

Greetings all, I underwent a surgical procedure today to have a hernia fixed. As a result they prescribed me Hydrocodone/APAP 5MG/ 500MG Tabs.

I am instructed to take two every four hours.
I also have a few xanax which i purchased a few days ago.

My question is, would it be safe for me to take me two hydro and follow it with a 1mg xanax to help me sleep?

I usually get "blackout" after ~5mg of xanax so I have somewhat of a tolerance.

10 mg of hydrocodone + 1 mg alprazolam is okay, especially since you have a tolerance to benzos.

I'm actually prescribed both of those at the same time (although in slightly different dosages). I would say 10mg hydrocodone with 1mg of xanax. For help with sleep, yes, I think it would be very beneficial, but hydrocodone is sedating and I would try to save your xanax, so definitely take 2 of your hydrocodone pills but only 1mg xanax (or even .5mg, you'd be surprised how much that can help if you aren't tolerant to opiates either). Don't worry, you'll be perfectly safe, and pain sucks man, hope you can sleep through it!

^I agree, 10mg hydrocodone and 1mg Xanax will probably sedate you more than anything else, although with that tolerance it may not. I would still go with 0.5 or even 0.75mg Xanax and the hydrocodone so you're not too sedated.

Unless, of course, you wanted to be, then the 10mg/1mg combination would be fine.

The real danger exists if you drank alcohol on that combination. I do not recommend drinking alcohol while on opiates and benzos (not that you said you would, just throwing that out there).

Like the others have stated, you will be fine with that dosage.
