WTH happened to Fentanyl?

I remember back in '06 that shit was everywhere, then it slowly faded into obscurity. The reason I'm asking is because my buddy is going to hook me up with a patch tomorrow (transdermal). Not sure if it's a 5 or 10mg, but either way, I'm gettin' it.

I'm curious to know if people can still smoke the gel, or if the manufacturers have some how put a stop to that by now?

I searched BL but came up with nothing really, and Google only has outdated information (all at least a year old).


Anyone got any NEW info this stuff? Is it still safe (<--- I use that word loosely) to just take a small drop of the gel, put it on some tinfoil, and vaporize it?

There are 2 or 3 different types of fent patches.
1- gel types that are easy to smoke/abuse.
2-patches similar to nicotine patches. Harder to abuse. Mylan brand I think.

And I feel like there is a different one but maybe not. I can't remember.

Uh, it was never safe to smoke fentanyl patches. Are you meaning are the current formulations any different/more dangerous than those that were around 6 years ago? I'm sorry I have no idea, you didn't mention the brand etc of the one you tried back then or what brand etc you are going to be getting now, so I have nothing to compare.

As boupstarnm said, there are 2 main kinds of fentanyl patches, the gel reservoir ones and the "matrix" ones (i'm not sure if you can smoke the latter). There may also be different brands of each type.

Also I don't think fentanyl patches come in 5 or 10mg. They come in strengths of mcg/hr, intended to administer that dose every hr for at least 72 hrs, but they actually contain on average ~60% more fentanyl than would last for 72 hrs, it's just that after 72hrs they can't guarantee the same output. It's very important to know how much fentanyl is in your patch. The patches come in the following strengths:

Duragesic brand:
12mcg/hr - contains 2.1mg fentanyl
25mcg/hr - contains 4.2mg fentanyl
50mcg/hr - contains 8.4mg fentanyl
75mcg/hr - contains 12.6mg fentanyl
100mcg/hr - contains 16.8mg fentanyl

Other brands should contain roughly around the same amount of fentanyl for the equivalent mcg/hr dosage strength, but let me know if you need help finding the info for your specific brand.

doeas anyone know why in USA -- no more SANDOZ 100mcg fent patches ? --- ?? I have been wearing for last 3 years (b4 that it was the Duragesic -- but too expensive )

suddenly ---- no Sandoz available ? ---- it is matrix at 16.8 mg


now all avail are the horrible matrix ones ---- dont work at all on me -- and the two gel types still around ...

anyone have any inside info on what happened to sandoz --

or more important -- have anyone found an equivelent generic close to sandoz/duragesic ?

^ I wanted to know this as well but no one was able to answer it. I was told by pharmacy that they (sandoz) is no longer making fent patches. Came out of the blue, as in one week they were ordered n came in and the next week they were not. It seemed very weird to me as sandoz patches have been around forever and to simply drop out of the market makes me
Wonder what's really going on....I agree with you 100% I would rather a sandoz nongel patch than any other gel or nongel, as when applied bucally they work fantastically. <snip>
Sorry I can't help you with the reason behind the disappearance. Two friends who are prescribed them have not gotten any better answers either--indefinitely unavailable is how I believe the one pharmacy termed it.
Oh well, I'm on my last one too. Enjoying it, yet a sad feeling , like saying bye to an old friend.
Sad day to me. I have only one left it will be sad when it's gone...

I don't know how much this is going to help,but I just had 5-25mcg fentanyl patches yesterday.I did smoke one and traded the other 4- 25 mcg for 8-30mg ms contin.I like them better.So they are still around down here in Texas.
