Heroin wtf is this lump in my arm?!

Totally posted this in the wrong forum earlier, so just gonna cut & paste in the right place this time :-)


I'm a recovering heroin addict; always a smoker up until 2 weeks ago, began IV using for the very first time. I have since decided to quit using all together. (Got 3 days so far.) Arms are healing, back on my subs for a while, all is going well...

Everything except for this quarter-sized marble-like lump on the inside of my arm.

An IV knowledgable friend of mine suggested it may be an internal abscess and that popping it could be dangerous as the puss/whatever's inside might very well be toxic to my body... I have been taking ibruprofen & abscess antibiotics that she gave me, praying it will clear up on its own. I read up on some abscess threads and will be using heat compresses & garlic asap as well.

Its only been here for 4 days now, and 2 of which it wasnt even known of bc my arm was swollen & sore.

It doesnt hurt, except maybe when muscles are flexed. It isnt red nor tender. Its hardly even visible actually. And it isnt increasing size wise, however, its not decreasing yet either.

I know many of you will probably tell me the answer to my Q is to go see a doctor... My deal is that I'd much rather avoid that shameful embarassing and extremely spendy visit, if I'm safely able.

So, I promised myself if it gets bigger or doesnt improve by day 10, I'll go in.

However, in the meantime I'd really appreciate any intake on what it may be and especially any ways I can treat it.

pictures would help, could be a cyst, but probably an infected abscess if it's right where you iv

dont pop it, goto the doctor if it doesn't go away

(ganglion cysts don't normally form on the inside of your arm afaik)

I tried, but.... I really dont think pics would help anyone's hypothesis too much! I just took a few, and ya cant even see the dang thing! Looks like a buncha pics of a regular ol' arm, literally. lol

I mean this thing is INSIDE. There's no visable evidence of it unless you maybe noticed a slight hump outward. I think the fact that it's on the very outer edge of my arm, right at the elbow crease, might help 'camoflauge' it a lot better though.

(And yes, it's at the IV spot, except its actually DIRECTLY above the prick mark that created this thing. So, the bottom of the lump starts right at my elbow crease line pretty much, and is about the size of a quarter in diameter.)

I also want to revise the 'it doesnt hurt' statement: it doesnt hurt normally/on a regular basis or when pressed/touched. It DOES however, hurt in a weird way, when I straighten my arm out fully. Feels like its being smushed or pushing on my nerves or something. Like I said, weird feeling...

abcesses take longer than 4 days to form.


what type of heroin was it? powder or tar?


give it a few more days and it should dissappear. if a white head forms or it become unbearably painful you should seek professional help. if its just a bump with no white head and little to no pain leave it alone. i have had missed shots of 12mg of dilaudid take 3 weeks to dissappear.


if you missed a shot of tar there is a greater chance of complications

Oh my goodness, reading that twisted my stomach a bit... What can be done or should I do from this point, if in fact you're right? Like, am I safe or does it go away, get worse, etc...?

Sorry, but I'm not very savvy with these risky things. IVing is a whole nother world compared to smoking.
 
Yeah mine was from regular powdered heroin, not tar. But I got one it was like how yours sounded, you can barely see it unless you know mine is there. It just noticeable if you rub your finger across it, otherwise it is so small you cannot see it. since mine was not painful, not swelling anymore, not really red or hot, and I didn't get a fever or anything like that I just left mine alone and it seems to be getting smaller as the months pass(Didn't think it was possible for it to get smaller than it was!)

So I wouldn't risk your health hoping that it turns out like mine did, esp with black tar which has a reputation to be worse for you and have all sorts or nasty cuts in it. So keep an eye on it and go to the dr as soon as it starts getting worse. Or if you start getting a fever or anything like that
 
I just wanted to thank everyone for their help :-)

Also, for future reference, wanted to update....

A friend of mine told me about this home remedy for abcsesses so I figured I'd try it out; wouldnt do much harm if what I had wasnt an abscess, and if it was, it'd help!

Well, it worked. WOnders, actually. i was gone in less than 48 hrs after applying this on my arm for a few hours. (She said 20mins minimum, and I ended up falling asleep with it wrapped to my arm.

Here's what I did:

Cut a potato in half, cover the inside part with salt and apply it or hold it on your affected area/abcsess. Apparently it absorbs all the nasty toxins into the potato or something.

Whatever it did, it worked! :-)

Just wanted to pass the tip on for anyone else who might be where I was, or just wants to try and heal/take care of their abcsess at home.

Worth a shot! It reaally worked, for me!

Hooray for holistic medicine.. Well since this has been answered, and you seem to have gotten better, I am going to close this.
