Who here like to write under the influence of substances?

I'm personally torn about it. I don't like it because it seems alien to me when I sober up, or I don't even remember I wrote anything and come across it weeks later.

But I do like it sometimes because I feel at liberty to use the words I want without shame of rejection.

How about you guys?

I agree with you in regards to being unable to relate to your own words after the fect. At the time I will admit I feel like its pretty awesome and that I am conveying something I normally couldn't. I think as far as some substances go, not alcohol really but maybe some opiates and psychedelics, we can view ourselves from the outside and while were back at home and comfy safe with our egos we cannot accept or even relate to that at all. I like to write under the influence, save it and read it again months later I find it makes more sense. Almost as if the mind needs time to catch up to the soul. good question.

I don't really write these days, but when I used to, I don't think I ever wrote under the influence, except for maybe the first thing I ever posted here. The drugs I'm most likely to use at home are codeine and/or alcohol and they've never done much for my creative vibe.

Doesn't feel right to me, cause i feel like missing out on something more important in the trip.

Plus I'mamostly Polite Drinker... Helps, Like NRMA....

Capt'n,
I'm pretty much
always
writin'
under the influence of alcohol...
(+ alprazolam,
but that's a staple/daily operation)
...but I like to drink ;) ,
so what's a brother gonna do...

Anyway,
I'm sure it's fairly obvious...

My preference is to come up with ideas while I am stoned, jot down the ideas, dream about the ideas, and then write later when I am sober.

i have written quick things down under light enebriation of alchohal and have been fairly impressed. It seems that my vocabulary increases after i have had a beer or so. Also i dont drink caffiene but on the rare occasion i do i feel so with it and sharp that i like to write then as well.

Oh actually, on alcohol ive written some impressive stuff, was thinking of other drugs. Beer really helps me think of lyrics quickly, its strange.

Never when drinking but sometimes when tripping or at the end of a pill i like to write. I write in my journal alot when i'm stoned.

i write under the influence all the time. i find i have different styles on different drugs.

i've never thought to do that. thats probably the most clever writing idea i've ever heard. i think i might have to try it.

I really really want to be able to write and draw when I'm on acid because I have the most amazing ideas, but I can't do it... :(

Speed/ecstacy, I have too much the ideas and not enough the control of how they come out...

Weed dulls my brain too much to even think about writing....

Alcohol is a winner - a lot of stuff that I have written that people say really moves them was done while I was drunk. I think it frees my inhibitions while still letting me stay in control enough to be able to put my thoughts on paper.

tape recorder/video camera, record the moment, then write about it later.

back in the day where i use to write alot.. most of the time i was on high dose of caffeine..
i have been writing, playing music and drawing for a long time, and everything change, the use of substance and the reason why you use them, what you are writing about and from what angle...

...

anyway one of my favorite text was called "penis and vagina" :) and i probably was sober when i wrote it,,

i agree...invest in a small digital recorder it works wonders

Meth was my DOC...

and up until 7 months ago, that's the ONLY way I wrote. I rarely wrote sober. It was either that or writing under the influence of Rx painkillers as I was coming down off meth. Dope doesn't give anyone the actual gift of writing, but what it does do is, like you said, break down inhibitions. For me, yes that was glorius, but also, what meth did for me was the physiological process of literally flooding my brain with unlocked creativity. I always did my best poetry on meth. I never really wrote it sober. Now, however is a different story. I still write. I still love to do it. Short stories and essays I've done. So far, I've yet to recapture the magic of poetry that rolled off with ease loaded. Eventually, I'll get there, I hope.
