May I request that interpersonal disputes are taken to PM?
Or rather; does their presence in this very thread highlight the more difficult side of wielding the stick of moderation?

If the higher ups of BL believe my contributions could be of value; please contact me.

But I do not feel comfortable electing and thus volunteering myself of my own volition, particularly when poor HR advice could lead to serious issues, as such an experienced moderating team seems necessary.

No.

No! Most certainly not.

I'd never been infracted either (except by accident once) until a recent staff member who is now gone decided to flex his muscles. The PM was hilarious...

...Since then, I have found the staff to be unnecessarily heavy-handed on occasion, and just outright bellends in other cases.

... but I remember the days when an infraction was extremely rare, and not the first course of action, as it appears to have become.

Are you trying to win a prize with this? For the most dishonest, disingenuous post of all time?

You are the person who, once given a mod job, practically invented infractions in EADD. Everything you say here has left many people open-mouthed and incredulous at your sheer gall. The days when an infraction was extremely rare was the days before you became a mod. The person who invented it as a first course of action was you. You infracted more people in your relatively short time as a mod than most other mods added together. Not content with this, when you stood down you continued, and continue, to write to admin behind the backs of mods such as Knock and Mailmonkey telling them (admin) how mods were failing in their duty to infract.

You continue to report posts, more posts probably than any other member in the history of BL has reported. I was here for 10 years without an infraction before you. Thanks to you I am only just back from a 3 month ban. Any post criticizing you, you seem to have the magic power of getting removed. By reporting it.

You got a fair few posters banned and are responsible for some great posters, such as Watsons Torment, leaving the board. Your treatment of Marmalade was deplorable. I see you've now started on (your previous friend) Allein calling him a 'bellend'. And the rest.

Unnecessarily heavy-handed? Flexing muscles? Did you write this post looking in your narcissistic mirror? That'd make a change wouldn't it.

Staggering. Absolutely staggering.

That's not exactly true, is it?

In any case, I don't deny that I was a petty tyrant on (many an) occasion, but it just wasn't the job for me. I was more troll than mod, which I freely admit. Hence the fact I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Did I refer to anybody in particular as a 'bellend'? No. So how you can divine that it was Allein I was talking about is beyond me. For the record, it wasn't.

I'm not even going to address the remainder of your post, as you appear to be whipping up the kind of shitstorm which neither this thread nor this forum need. Nor will I point out that I was consuming more drugs and booze than the entire board at the time, on top of a serious illness (which, of course, I only use as a lame excuse, etc.).

Just let go of it, and grow up.

Yes it is.

Thank you for admitting this at least.

And here again we see your disingenuous nature. You know you meant him, I know you meant him. Shall we go over to the music thread and see your petty quote from a PIL song following a certain post in this thread? That's how you do things Sammy and you know it. You used PIL because its Alleins favourite band. Shall I bring up the time you posted in that thread after my best friend died quoting the lyric "I don't care"?

Here we go again. The booze. The illness.

Those things are you Sammy. When are you going to grow up?

Right. I'm out. I've used no ad-homs, all I've done is address two posts instigated by Sammy for which I believe it is my right to reply. I will indeed say no more but if anything I have posted here gets removed I'd like a very good reason as to why. Because this is a discussion board and I am replying to two posts that very much needed discussing rather than being left to stand alone.

Thank you.

According to my calculations, I was a mod of EADD for a grand total of 105 days. :D

(While modding other forums too, in 2007.)

That's how long it took to wear me down. I used to enjoy posting on EADD until I became a mod. When you have to constantly mediate between warring factions, respectfully deal with fucking stupid "customer complaints"/accusations of censorship, robotically deal with spam, deal with all the reported posts, update index pages, keep up to date with the staff forums/modthreads, and remember to check the Events forum (RIP)... you just can't be fucked posting as a normal like you did in the old days.

I wouldn't wish the job on my worst enemy. The conflict resolution part was the worst.

Much respect due to our current crop of mods, who are one of the best teams we've had for a while (or even ever?), IMHO. And I'm not just saying that. :)

^ indeed.

i think the job of moderators is misunderstood. i also think that there's a huge amount of work done by moderators that people don't really see and don't really appreciate.

i further think that there's a tendency for some bluelighters to disrespect and flat out abuse members here simply because they are on staff. it's worse in some forums than others but it saddens me greatly when i see some of the vitriol directed at staff here.

i'd say that the current quality of moderators and moderation across the board is at as high a level as it's ever been - maybe the highest ever - and i believe that the quality of moderation at bluelight is a significant factor in bluelight's success over the years.

Aye to all that.

Evey said something the other week about not liking the idea of 15 year old mods "bossing her about". Which is a completely incorrect way of looking at it, and it's probably fair to say that other people think that way too.

You don't become the "boss" of a forum. You become its servant, and you end up with a target on your back. :sus:

Not that I would discourage people from applying from the next mod slot to come up; I'm sure it has its perks. ;)

I wouldn't moderate this place if you fuckin paid me. IMO the job only appeals to petty authoritarians and those with delusions of grandeur.. ;)
i see the smiley but many a true word is spoken in jest, right?

almost without exception, the bluelight staff with whom i've interacted have been dedicated, humble, knowledgeable people who have gained a lot from bluelight and want to give something back.

i've certainly dealt with a handful of aggressive, arrogant staffers who felt that the rules didn't apply to them and the forum they moderated was 'their' forum. a few of those moderators were - after as many chances and discussion as any reasonable observer would find reasonable - removed from staff.

but i think they're definitely a tiny number of exceptions to the rule given there have been over 500 bluelight staff over the years (540 by my reckoning).

Like I said, it's not a delusion..

As for the staff being a wonderful bunch, yeah, totally... not as wonderful as me though ;) I am joking now..

Case in point ;)

Seriously though, I agree that most of the mods on here seem to be very reasonable people and it must be a thankless task - which is why I can't understand people's motives for volunteering in the first place (unless they're closet tyrants ;) )
