would poppy seeds from grocery grow?

if i just went and bought some poppy seeds from the grocery... would it grow papaver somniferum? i read a lot and its hard to tell.. or do you have to buy them from a special store or dealer? **not asking for source, just yes or no.

will they not be treated with chemicals to allow them to be eaten? are u not better off at a garden centre? or even online

Yes they do grow, although the sprouting rate seems alot lower than seeds from pods. Not really a bad thing, it's easy to plant poppies way to thick anyway.
