I am new, can find correct sub forum to post in, advice appreciated. I know from reading tapering off of heroin always is met with skepticism... Anyone here do it? Could we discuss a possible schedule or review my plan? Thank you to anyone kind enough to care...

Tapering off opiates is hard but it can be done with the right mental, medical and physical support.

I'm on week 8 of a long opiate taper myself - longer than necessary due to medical issues, but getting there.

Please post your plan so members can reply with their experiences.

how long and how much have you been doing it for?

i dont taper i chip but i have tapered before. what helps me tremendously is filling your time with stuff to do. like a job or hobby. try to find a job that is mindless work with no drug tests i guess. like midnights at a supermarket or a union or transportation...try to do something positive cause when your high nothing gets done. ive learned that if im not gonna quit im atleast going to move forward it may be no where near as fast as someone my age should be progressing but atleast its something.

If you can't find what you need via the search engine, I encourage you to make a post in Other Drugs. That is typically where discussion like this goes on the site, and you'll get a lot of good replies.

Welcome to BL.

Depending how long you've been doing dope actually affects how easy it is for you to get off i myself have been doing it for quite a while and i really do not enjoy being dope sick i would suggest trying to find suboxone just ask your friends who you get the dope from more than likely it will be super easy. If you can get past the first two days of being dope sick youll be okay for most those are the worst. Xanex is my favorite thing to get me over that hump

I suggest a Google search. There is a huge amount of information if you make the effort to find it.

tapering off dope on your own? been there and done that numerous times all unsuccessfully. your heart's in the right place but the odds are against you. try suboxone. it's working for me. if you're thinking of taking a shortcut by doing zanax till you're not sick anymore probably won't work and a benzo habit is much worse than a dope habit to kick. find a dr. and do it right. get in a support group. the dope is only a symptom of deeper problems. till you resolve these you will be relapse prone. btw, stay away from the methadone maint. programs. worse than dope by far.
