The two most commonly prescribed opioids for opioid addiction, methadone and buprenorphine, are not very good for their purpose in my experience. Methadone gets you way more addicted than you where in the first place & buprenorphine doesn't hit the spot right to keep me to keep clean, plus with the bupe it's difficult to switch back to it after a heavy relapse do to the fear of precipitated withdrawl from taking it to early, I have a busy life.

I'm almost sure codeine would be best since doctors insist on keeping me on an opioid for life, or at least a very long time. Methadone is what fucked up my life, not really heroin. I'm prescribed suboxone now which I don't usually take, I just snort a lot of dope haha.

THAT is what is fucking up your life. Until you want to get clean, you wont, and I doubt a doc is going to prescribe any narcotics (even weak-ass codeine) for narcotics addiction. Sure, you can find a pill-mill doc anywhere, but WHEN he gets shut down you're out on your own again. Codeine is so weak that it's OTC in many countries. I wish you the best in your life, however you have to make a choice and stick with it: either keep snorting dope, or taper with bupe and get clean.

I dont like bupe, it sucks, doesnt get you high, but keeps you from being sick. At some point in your life, feeling normal will be a blessing compared to chasing dope. Im already there, after paying some STEEP costs, physically, financially, mentally and legally. I hope you dont have to go down the road I have to realize this.

I Can go to any corner store where I live and buy a bottle of 200 8mg codeine pills as many times a day as I want. My mom takes so many of those a day like 50. But I don't think the doc would prescribe codeine for those purposes. I know someone who is on suboxone to come off codeine actually so I doubt codeine will be given after suboxone. Sorry I know its not the answer you want to hear

No a doctor is not going to script you codeine for maintenance if you're an addict.. I mean come on.

Bupe and methadone have helped a lot of people and can be really great if you actually use them correctly.. which you're clearly not. If you think codeine is going to be your magic answer, you're wrong. There is no magic answer. You have to want to get clean.. maintenance drugs are just a tool.

Great answer Mr. Scag, pretty much what I was gonna say but you beat me to it. I would personally drop the H & use the bupe properly to taper off. If you really want to be clean your actually in great spot for that. If you've been using H & haven't been using your suboxone your body is more tuned into the short acting opiates so your WD should reflect that. Also your tolerance should reflect that too, eventhough subs don't get you high bupe is a very powerful opioid with a really high affinity to certain opiate receptors in your brain. So if you do a fairly rapid taper from a dose of subs that holds you & jump from a sub milligram dose, you should have a much easier to deal with WD. Good luck with whatever you do but as many others have said it's very doubtful that you will get codeine for opiate maintenance therapy.

We can't speculate on this. I know people who've been RX'd hydromorphone ER for opioid addiction off-label but such a thing is a rarity and codeine is very ill-suited for the job due to it's short acting nature and it's debatable ceiling limit, making it impractical for those with a decent habit. I've also known doctors to prescribe hydrocodone ER liquid solution for opioid addiction, but we can't just speculate wildly. Sorry, read the guidelines.
